Question Drop Through Advice

Hey Silverfish,

I've been lurking around here for awhile but I didnt feel I had to make an account before now. I need some advice from you. I hope you will answer properly, and hopefully with your own experiences.

So here it goes; Im buying a new speedboard. I've found out that drop through is the #### for me. It has the perfect balance between grip and drift. So I am definatly positive that I want a drop through. The thing is I weigh about 110 lbs, so im a pretty light and small guy.

What im considering at the moment is the Rayne Hellcat or The Roger Bros speedboard. Here is what I have read on here that is the pros and cons of the different boards;

Rayne Hellcat
Pros:Nice wheelbase, nice concave, cool design, pretty lightweight, relatively cheap
Cons:Mainstream :P , fragile nose

Roger Bros 3/16"
Pros: will last an eternity, aluminium dampens the ride, nice concave, switchable nose/tail pieces.
Cons: pricey, heavy(doesn this really matter that much? I know theres alot of different opinions out there. But do you think it will be bad for me, considering my weight? Heard it weight as much as an 11-ply wooden board, does it?, Long wheelbase (34") compared to the hellcat?

Im going to use 42 degree 180mm Randals and powerballs/4presidents as a setup on my board.

At the moment Im leaning more towards the roger bros because i think it looks like a superb downhill board, but I am set back the weight and the long wheelbase? Am i overreacting? Isnt it as bad as i think/have read?

So what do you think? Thanks

I have never tried the 3-piece Rogers, but I`m sure it super stuff, Rogers Bros knows their #### for sure! I have their wooden speedboard.

Buuut, I also recently got a Hellcat, and I can`t recommend it enough! A sick board.
Great concave that makes turning easy(in a tuck), very agile and they have beefed up the nose on the last batch of boards, so that fragile nose is history(and Bomb Squad makes great nose guards for them also) I wouldn`t call it lightweight though, unless you buy a Dee-Lite.

I would say hellcat. I haven't ridden the 3piece roger bros. board, but i've ridden the aluminum topmount one, and it feels strange. I know people that like it, but from my experience the hellcat is an awesome board

Sorry if this seems like a plug (I guess technically it is) but check out Toasted Longboards. We make an aluminum drop through deck that is similar to the RB deck. Click the picture in my sig to go to the site. Price will run about $210 plus shipping.

Really if you've never ridden a board, you shouldn't say things like "I'm sure...". Talk about the board you know and give good information about it. The RBros three piece is my board for DH, and its awesome. It actually has a little bit of flex (I weigh 155-160), not enough to cause instability, jut enough to dampen bumps. I really enjoy how the board rides. The concave is perfect for my 11 shoe. I haven't noticed any problems with the weight, in fact it might even help you maintain speed through flats or in headwinds since you're so light. I rode mine at Maryhill and it cornered beautifully. Pushing on it is also quite easy due to the ride height (Adjustable! Another plus.). I think those would be the only things that could be negatively affected by the weight, or wheelbase for the cornering and they aren't. But you shouldn't just take our advice, try to get on the boards before you make a decision. Have you ever stood on Rayne cave before? Do you like having a flat section in the middle of your board? One of the more accessible concaves that I could compare the RBros to is Evo cave, kind of. There is a section on the forum called "Longboard Connections", go in there and post up where you are. More than likely someone else in your area skates. Good luck.

Wow, thanks man! Really good stuff right there! Just what I asked for.

I had a Hellcat some time ago, but sold it to try something new, now i want back to the drop throughs. I liked the hellcat cave, but also like Kebbek cave, which i can imagine is pretty similar to the RBros? I gotta think about this for a while before deciding. Got alot of friends with Evos, so that wont be a problem. Yet again, thanks man.

I would say the ro bros because it feels great no matter what and you dont have to worry about the nose. And the wheelbase doesnt matter to much it will be way more stable for you. And since your light you can stick anything.
