So I was in Tucson, AZ this morning and I hung out with the Madrid guys down there. They took me to the local hill (not gonna say the name although I'm sure most of you know it) which was 22 miles of DH. Within the first mile, Brody's truck broke, yes broke and I am never riding Randal trucks again because of that. A piece of metal busted off of his base plate right around the pivot cup so his hanger turned sideways. This took him and Josh out behind him but luckily I can't hold my tuck worth sh!t so I was far enough behind to foot break.
So I ride up and Brody is sitting on the ground and Josh is holding his arm. Brody couldn't really stand up at first because he fell at what I'm guessing was about 45 miles an hour. So Josh is asking Brody if he is alright and rubbing his shoulder and discovers that his collar bone is broken. We later found out that Brody had suffered a concussion and separated his shoulder. Josh said something to the effect of "let's get going" or something like that. So I started taking my stuff off and he just said "What you're not gonna finish?"
I didn't think anyone was crazy enough to ride down 20 some miles at 50 miles an hour with a broken collar bone but Josh is a bad ass. Brody is a bad ass too but he was slightly more fvcked up and couldn't really walk straight or stop shaking.
That was the crazy part of the run. The rest is just pure awesome. We came out of the pine trees and it opened up at this cliff with the best set of sweepers overlooking the whole valley and the sun was coming up but it was red. It was the most amazing ride I have ever taken.
So 22 miles and 169 turns later my legs were about ready to collapse and all I wanted to do was go back home so I could sleep. We get to the bottom and start putting out stuff in my truck and guess who pulls up behind us. A couple police officers. They look at our stuff and they look at Brody who managed to get road rash through his leathers and asked what we were doing. So I'm a little nervous because I didn't want to pay a ticket or anything. We told them we were just riding around and went down the first mile of the mountain.
Then, it was weird. They started talking to us about how cool it was how crazy we were. They were actually stoked about it and were asking us a bunch of questions like how fast we can go and how long we've been skating. They were pretty cool. Brody and Josh went to the hospital and got some Vicoden and Percoset (sp?) so it all turned out okay. Overall, that was the best day of riding that I've ever had.
Oh yeah, and I broke 50 for the first time!
