Re: Comet- A freeride/fun time deck
ATTENTION ALL OF WHOM WHO OWN THE FINAL PRODUCT: indy trucks WILL work with the dropthrough fsm. You do not need to top mount or flushmount it. The new wheel wells extend all the way to the nose of the deck and now aliviates hanger bite, and belive me i'm at full lean and like to use venom conical buchings. Using indys WILL ALIVIATE wheel bite, it does this because indy trucks extend the wheel base compared to reverse kingpin thus moving the wheels about over 1/2 an inch away from the standing platform compared to randal 50*. I dont have any pics at the moment because i'm using a shitty computer thats difficult to upload since my laptop charger died, but trust me if you have conventional trucks dont be scared to try them out on the fsm.

Thanks, I've been wanting to try this. 70-72mm wheels?
What are the ride characteristics compared to Randals? (I'm just so used toe reverse kingpin trucks)

Re: Comet- A freeride/fun time deck
That sounds great! Are you using standard Indy 215's or Marks Hybrids with the Core baseplates?

Re: Comet- A freeride/fun time deck
its gonna give the board a tad more flex because it extends the wheel base. This board is EXTREMLY low to the ground, you dont have to worry about rail bite but be aware your toes/heel might hit the gorund during a turn if they are hanging off. Also this lowering of height will make the board even more drifty but as a draw back it takes off leverage from the nose and thing like manuals and shuvits become a tad harder. The difference in feeling of the trucks is kinda hard to explain idk i guess the turn is "smoother" and more predictable? conventional trucks also seem more responsive to nuances of foot movements. you just gotta try them for yourself.
And i used regular indy trucks but be advised the one i own are an older generation that have 6 hole baseplates. All current generation models only have 4 hole newschool drillings, so they wont fit in the fsm unless you have somesort of oldschool plate like the MHS core baseplate.

Re: Comet- A freeride/fun time deck
I threw some indy 169s on my mozzy today, and decided when the time comes, I'll be running hybrid 215s. I'm slowly working up the money for this baby.

Re: Comet- A freeride/fun time deck
Got mine in . Just need to do a bit of final fitting for my Holey trucks.
I cant tell yet whether I am going to get any static bite with the Freerides.

Even with conventional trucks flushmounted, it feels too low. Maybe that's because I'm used to powersliding a topmount with R-II's on flatland, but I can't help but think they feel sort of sluggish and sloppy in the turn to break the wheels out. I think once I get my Randals on it will be alright.
I'm also kind of over this whole hard wheel big core thing. I want to get some EW Smokers, and maybe even some Seismics in 45/45 (flushmounted!). That sounds smoooooth.

Re: Comet- A freeride/fun time deck
so i got mine yesterday. got one flusmounted and one normal
flushmount setup with indie 215s core baseplates, and blue calssic k kryptos. i absolutely love it. not too high, not too low, get a massive amount of leverage and standups are the cleanest ive ever done.
the normal drop one on the other hand was setup with randalls and gravity drifters.
not liking the randalls on ti all that much, might chang it to indie/ cores and see how that is and then ill pass judgement. hahaha but indies are definitely the way to go if you get it flush.

Re: Comet- A freeride/fun time deck
Mine arrived today, halfway through gripping it as I type this. I would like to say that Jason and Comet are awesome not just because of the board but also because they said it was worth 25$ on the customs form. So no extortionate handling fees for me. I was so pleased.

Re: Comet- A freeride/fun time deck
Update on my deck. I swapped out my Randal 180/50* yesterday for some Fastracks. Unflipped they are fine, I can just barely get static wheelbite with my 83A 4-prez wheels and none with my EW Drifters. I tried flipping them and no deal. I get massive wheelbite with either wheel. I loved how low the deck was though, so I may have to try some hybrid Indys some time on it.
Still love this board. It is tough too. I have been trying all sorts of tricks on it (mostly unsuccessfully!) and it is holding up great. It still shines best at just doing some hard carving and standup sliding all over the place!
