i also have that problem. i get the first swing but the length of that first swing is sooo long and you don't have the momentum to get it back.....all tips will be very much appreciated

I find that looking over the shoulder helps, I don't need to anymore, and didn't before, but all my friends who couldn't get pendys needed to do it. Once you've done the first 180 just look over your shoulder and it'll come back around.

ok so im not a sliding pro in fact im shite!!! but anyhow i was messing around a few days ago and i mannaged my first one!

    (for regular)

ok when you slide around toeside the board will come from left to right across the road if you hold it you will find that it should come up a bit this is where you put more weight on the tail side then hold it as it comes back around...
    stand and ride away"!

wow this being my first useful post for ages!

Thats how I do it. I keep leaning on the same side of the board and I push on the nose (as opposed to the tail like when I do the first slide) I also find it helps a bit to move the hand thats on the ground farther behind your back.

Also when i was learning I used a bit of a torquing motion with my shoulders. I dont have to do this now, it has become more of a leading motion.

Mmmmm, yes I would agree with speed being the key. I had the same problem for a very long time of only getting it over too my left side and staying there so long I wouldn't beable to get it all the way over to my right. But finally going as fast as possible on my favorite sliding hill, I got as low as I could too the ground. Finally after a few attempts of going as low too the ground as possible, oh on toeside, it would help me slide further. So finally thats how I figured it out. But also looking over the shoulder does help when getting it too the other side. Both have their downsides though. Going as low as possible can sometimes result in black marks on your pair of pants you just put on in the morning because your so close to the ground it rubs, also bad falls onto the stomach suck. With the shoulder I'v come to find you don't slide nearly as far, but you can see whats coming which helps a lot sometimes also it helps whip it around. Hope it helps.

yea, i find the same. i used to get really low but then i'de start to strain some muscles because i had no strength and i'de tend to sometime loose the board and yet ANOTHER facotr was you'de slide so good that on the narrow sliding hill we use i'de fly off the slide (it drops down) so i'de result to getting rigid and sliding on my pucks and toes....very fun though

thats exactly what I was gunna say, if you can do one you can do a pendy just get more speed and don't unlock your weight stay on that rail and your deck will return to the next point of least resistance. If you have an unreal amount of speed it is possible to do as many swings as the momentum allows...
The sage, Longboard Buddha once said, "A tree spends 100% of its lifetime in a static environment and only after its reincarnation as a deck is it allowed to move at fast speeds...
when allowed, the wood will give thankless service if
    allowed to flow."

Yep-o... speed. Get speed, and the board should just bring itself back around in most cases... at least for me it seems to do that, no matter where or what I am riding. Just need speed.

and also, a surrender slide is just the intro to a slide, ur not even slidin yet really, so u basically are sayin that u were riding, and put ur hands on the ground behind u

i did my first one by accident, and i was kinda cheating by watering the road first, but i was a noob, so im gonna forget i ever did that. just rocket into yer slide with 1 hand down and the other on the rail (just to learn, then you take yer hand off the rail) as you start to roll across the road in the slide, use your hand to pull the board up, and then way back down to the other side, then just stand up and roll outta the slide.

this is a really really helpful sliding site.

speed if very helpful...you don't even need to be going too fast. you kinda wanna just put your hands down and as soon as they're down, throw your shoulders into the first 180, kick out the board with your feet so it follows your shoulders. do a few of those until you can do a full 180 fairly effortlessly. learn the first half of the pendulum before the 2nd. once you do the 180 and you're riding switch, i like to ride that out a little bit to try to keep my speed. hands down to the side, leaning over. once you're doing that, looking over your opposite shoulder helps a lot. thats the weirdest feeling, but after the first couple times you get used to it. once you can do that, you just mimic the same rotation except backwards, scoop your legs underneath you and stand back up for the last 180.

most people learn coleman slides and heelside pendulums first - i started with toeside and now i'm having trouble with colemans so good luck to you
