I can't ollie on a skateboard for Sh!t
Im a begginer
is it different ollieing a 42" gravity mini-carve, all i want to do is to be able to pop it and creat land tricks, nothing crazy. if i step on the tail am i gonna shoot the board forward and and bust my A$$?
but im mainly gonna just cruise.

Re: I can't ollie on a skateboard for Sh!t
huh?
yes, its much easier to ollie on a street deck. you can ollie on the mini carve, but it will be 100x easier to learn on a standard street deck.
-
Re: I can't ollie on a skateboard for Sh!t
street decks are all shaped the same way because as of now that is the best shape for what they do. The larger the board the more difficult to ollie. At the same time it takes a long time to be able to ollie, so don't give up and keep working at it. If you let it discourage you then it's not even fun. Just ride to ride and in time the tricks will come.

Yeah, so much easier on a street deck. You could buy a blank one for cheap and practice on it - that's what I did and now I can ollie on my 40" deck. But that's just because I'm lazy.
Longboarding. More than meets the eye.

i agree with this, but i still think that ollies are a valuable skill to have as a skateboarder. they come in handy when you get good enough to bust one out when you need to
i have nipple flippers

Now im gonna try a boneless, clean looking trick

Re: I can't ollie on a skateboard for Sh!t
ollies are a fundamental trick that skaters should learn, just like slides and footbrakes. the main thing is timing. as soon as that back foot pops, bring it straight back up and your front foot should already be sliding forward at this point and level it out. its all in the ankles. just make sure to bend your knees and actually jump when you try it, i've seen too many people trying to just pop it without jumping and it always results in a fail, rolled ankle or board shooting out and them on their ass. good luck.

Re: I can't ollie on a skateboard for Sh!t
I can barley ollie a shortboard and I been skating since 1992... It's possible, but it's mad hard to pull off on a LB. I can't. I hate those shortboard tricks. I was one of those unlucky few that with years of practice, never got good... I cracked ankles so many times. I'm 6' 2" and I just can't keep good balance on them little things. My feet are just too close. I road to ride not to impress people. It took me many years to stumble on longboarding. I wish I was more into it in the late 90's back when I just road shortboards to school mostly on steep, long hills... Oh the trip down memory lane...
Anyway!
If you ride barefoot, you can grip the edges with your toes and hop it. There is a method of hopping it while crouched. Basically you are picking up the board. I was never good at that unless I hit the right speed bump... which i only get maybe an unusable slight hop (2 or 3 inchs max lol)
if you check out my pictures, you can see I left a few inches on the noses of my homemade. i can pop it up real fast and smooth when it's time to take a break.
just remember, LBs aren't made to ollie. don't risk cracking board or bone. my board is just to long to ollie. if your board is short enough, and your legs are long enough, get some video! I'd stick that in my ~/Video/Skating/

Re: I can't ollie on a skateboard for Sh!t
^^That is a great video. The slow motion really makes it clear that the rear foot only initiates the motion and must be pulled up before the tail hits the ground, which is an important point I rarely see mentioned. If the foot is still touching the tail when the tail hits the ground there can be no ollie, yet even this video fails to explain that. I guess the imagery is worth 1,000 words.....
That said, I still can't ollie

Re: I can't ollie on a skateboard for Sh!t
Any tips on olleing a 44 incher? I could ollie my old pool deck just fine, but I'm having a ton of trouble on the big boy.

one thing that always caught me out and gets only little attention in this video is to distribute your weight forward properly. I never really figured that out until Ward pointed it out to me, now ollies work better, I'm still far from good though

Re: I can't ollie on a skateboard for Sh!t
Yeah... Highest I could ollie was maybe a foot going about 5mph give or take a few. I don't find it necessary in order to skate. The less I fall, the better I feel.

Re: I can't ollie on a skateboard for Sh!t
whats up with all the trash talk on the ollie. i love crusing aruond, popping up a curb, popping off the curb, not having to walk my board when i get to a stair set, ect.

Re: I can't ollie on a skateboard for Sh!t
