Re: continous cross stepping
I have an idea.
Instead of periods, I shall write some words in my response.
Those aren't actual cross-steps, they're more just switching from regular to switch stance and carving toeside each time they switch stances, then repeating.
In the video below, they show a combination trick, going from regular stance cross-step, to switch stance cross-step, back to regular stance cross-step into a shove it. They show you how to transition from regular to switch stance at about 1:37.
The move in the video you posted is only the transition (meaning no actual cross steps, just switching stances via stepping) from regular stance to switch stance done repeatedly.
Have fun learning it, perhaps you'll get better riding switch because of it if you aren't so good at riding switch already.

Re: continous cross stepping
It's my favorite move (and I figured it out BEFORE I saw that video! Cause it's not really that hard.)
what you want to do is start by positioning your back foot at an angle somewhere between 30 and 45 degrees offset from straight forward. Place your front foot facing straight forward in the middle of the deck, and step past it with your "back" foot, placing your "back" (now front) foot near the front truck. Your "back foot" should be perpindicular to the board.
Now comes the fun part, drop your new front knee, and slide your new back foot from the middle to the back of the board. As you stand up, bring your front foot to the middle of the board.
This was how I learned to ride switch.
and once you get that down, you can start carving side to side with it, and soon most other boardwalking tricks will be a piece of cake.
A great tip for boardwalking is to remember to "T" off. If you place one foot parallel with the board, and one foot perpindicular to the board, you will be stable.
I could make a video if you really want me to.

Re: continous cross stepping
well i dont reall even consider those cross steps more like a peter pan but instead of crossing your foot to the other railo you just pivot and end up switch and then to the same thing switch to get back to regular

Re: continous cross stepping
I could throw together a few videos if you want some random specific help. I like doing things like that.

yay thanks brother !! i would appreciate that I have few questions tho, since im a total noob to longboard (the only experience i have are snowboarding / freebord):
1) can cross-stepping be done at very low speed, on tennis court ?
2) how do you avoid fear from falling while doing cross-stepping ?
3) i have no problem riding switch on snowboard but i have still fear of riding switch on freebord, how is it (riding switch) with longboard ?
4) is it possible to do cross-step on the board at zero speed ? (as a practice). And do you recommend on high friction surface (aka grass or bedroom carpet) ?

Re: continous cross stepping
you can do them slow but it almot makes it harder in my opinion.
the fear factor you just have to get over its not that bad unless your going really fast
switch takes some gettin used to also, after you become a confedent rider just spend a whole session witch to get used to how it feels and get your balance riding that way.
if you need to practice foot placement ad things like that throw your board in the grass so it doesn't move, it will be more forgiving of mistakes and losing you balance.
above all practice a lot its a great feeling once you get it all figured out
all the best dude welcome to longboarding

From this video, it seems I can do cross-stepping on grass with no problem because the speed = 0.
But with low speed to start, I am having the fear problem from 0:46 to 0:47 on this video. During this transition, my fear is that the board will shoot forward or backward and I'll fall. Whats the technique on this 1-second-long transition ? do u really have to stay straight ? or bend knee ?

yea... i just need help on that particular section on the video as described above (0:46 - 0:47) -- that heelside crossing over of backfoot over to the front foot -- that 1-second duration on the video. I can do it on grass but not while in motion cuz I always lose my balance . HELP !
I CAN stand on one foot while the board is moving, just not in a cross-feet fashion (aka that 1-second section of the video)
