Switch frontside 180 slides
Having a real hard time getting this down switch, my regular frontslide 180 slides i can do all day long but then i get stuck switch, is this the best way out? or is switch backside 180 best way out?

Re: Switch frontside 180 slides
both are great ways to exit... backside gets you more respect... if you are going to try switch frontsides I would suggest more speed and throw your shoulders. That's how I finally started nailing mine... i realized i was going too slow and was forgetting to throw my shoulders/arms into the turns.

Re: Switch frontside 180 slides
I also can nail front and backsides, but when it comes to switch I cant even get my wheels to break loose. I'm sort of comfortable riding switch (as in I can push around and carve a garage), but I don't really know how to progress. Any tips?

Re: Switch frontside 180 slides
It's just the same as regular, only backwards. You guys know this.
Take all you can off the back swinging foot. Throw your shoulder, arms, then legs and crunch that weight into the front/new back.
It took me forever of feeling retarded myself, but you just got to push through it.
Just go do it, do it, do it.

Re: Switch frontside 180 slides
i had the same problem. it took a few weeks to build up to them but i started out by riding switch a lot. eventually i got somewhat comfortable so i practiced carving switch (it was weird had to concentrate on putting more weight on the new front foot). after your comfortable carving switch you just have to remember how you learned the original 180 (bend the knees a bit, lean into carve, rotate body/unweight back of board) I learned this part in the rain then transfered that onto dry land.
it takes a while but its do-able. now i just need to get down toeside 180s :-/

Re: Switch frontside 180 slides
Just carve hard into it, keep 70% of your weight over your front foot and commit to the spin by making yourself think that you are going to spin 180. Good luck

Re: Switch frontside 180 slides
Not to be a dick, but why is everyone soo disappointed when they can't pull a trick on the first day of attempts. I remember 10 years ago, it took me MONTHS to ollie onto a picnic table, but I finally got it.
I have a bunch of skateboards
Isn't this what you're supposed to put in a signature?

kudos
although i seem to catch onto a lot of new longboard tricks quickly because theyre easier than a lot of shortboarding tricks, theres still a few that take lots of time and practice to learn.
think pre kick-flip days xD

Re: Switch frontside 180 slides
besides all that's been said above, bend your knees and keep your butt low, it makes it easier to slide the board around.

Re: Switch frontside 180 slides

Re: Switch frontside 180 slides
I know this thread is almost a year old but does anyone ever just go a day riding switch only... I imagine that it would help a lot.

it will help but not as much as you might think, a large part of learning to skate around on flat land only in switch is getting used to pushing in the switch position etc. But, thats unnecessary when talking about switch slides since your already going down a hill, you just need to be comfortable enough to do a nice setup carve then 180.
