Default Stand-Up's, why must you hate me?

so i've been at the 180 stand-up slides for about 3 days now and a total of 6 hours or so. i've been trying and trying then coming back to the internetz for tips and help. problem is, half the time i only get half way and fall off, the other half i get all the way around and get thrown off.

    Here's what i'm doing right (i think):
    -right foot near tail
    -bending, weight on front foot
-carving HARD (i gained more success after i started doing this)
-pushing the back foot to the best of my ability
    -butt out, head in
    -swinging arms
-looking the direction i wanna go
    -83A Gravity Drifters

my board is a 42" Gravity Mini carve

one problem i notice is that sometimes i might be leaning too far back. i don't know how to fix this because if i don't lean, i can't seem to push the back out. any help would be awesome!

Concentrate on carving hard so your rear wheels let go and work on that feel getting it to 90 degrees, after that it's all commitment and weight placement (front foot), practicing on wet ground helps a lot.

for when i was learning i use to get thrown off too, i started going faster and leaning a bit farther back and it helped. i would try to go faster if i was you, cuz whenever i go faster for slides i make em almost everytime.
Also try to lock ur knees, which means keep them straight. idk y but for some reason that helped.

Yeah, it took me quite a few days to land one successfully, and then many days before I could make one on the first try, developing muscle memory sure takes time.

Be sure you're winding up. That's what the hard carve and swinging of the arms are supposed to incorporate themselves together into. Leaning back, like your halfway sitting/sitting down is correct. You'll have to get used to the slipping, and form a synergy with where your weight is angled, pressing into the board with your legs (not your weight) to maintain control and muscle it around, and the motion bringing it around all at the same time. Rain is your friend. Find a good flat parking lot in the rain. Go 5mph, stay directly over your board (no leaning, it's wet!) and throw it around and feel what it's like to move a board like that just muscling it. That's 2/3 of it right there.

Relearning 180's in switch I noticed an important part was pivoting around and controlling the front that becomes the back- this is where your weight begins and ends and where alot of muscle sensitivity development takes place. The other end can swing around as fast as you like, just keep control over it by pressing your foot into the concave. (Not weighing into it, there is a difference. Keep the wheels scrubbing.)

Keep your body a half-step ahead of what your board is doing- lead with it. Leading with the board and trying to keep up with it is a good way to loose control and get thrown off. Wind up, throw your body, and just after you throw your weight follow with your legs.

loosen your trucks, to get started try going faster, and carving 90 degrees then push out the back foot, so you only really "slide" the back wheels and only a little bit at that. then go faster, and slide longer. imo theres nothing steezier then a long, slow speedcheck/180

You're at a normal part of the learning curve. I would also get kicked off half way around, or rotate too hard and have to step off. At this point, keep practicing and you will eventually land one. Once you land one, it's a great confidence boost and you will slowly hone the skill. Force that back end around any way you can.

maybe ur trying to push ur back foot out too hard, so its not a fluid motion, and u become off balance, i was going standys a little bit ago and had it happen to me, noticed that i tried to push out with my back foot too much. So i became off balance,
Just do a super hard carve and lean back a little bit, if u go fast enough it will happen.

roll your shoulders back. conciously think on that. this will get you leaning back slightly, not too much, but enough to not get tossed off the front of your board.

carve into it and hold. think of it as a hard right into the side of the road, and LOOK at it. but instead of snapping back at the last second you hold it and unweight, in effect stand up while going into the carve. HOLD THAT CARVE. your wheels will slip and slide and you'll be fine.

and get those knees bent. i noticed when learning switch standies that i didnt bend my knees at all. that helps a ton. and roll those shoulders back.
