You're probably hesitating too much on the steps. Try to make it quicker and more fluid.

you might be going to slow, dont be afraid to try while moving a bit. I used to have the same problem until i just took another push or two.

When you step don't put your weight as far forward you want to carve and lean back when you crossstep

make sure that your weight is centered on both feet WHEN they are on the deck. just practice and practice. you might also be ending really far foreward which means you are starting your cross step generally more in the middle of the board.

keep your weight centered and practice! It will come with time your not gonna be able to do it right away.

Also get your hands in the air like you just don't care I cant tell you how much putting your hands up will help you at first. Don't let them be dead weight use em' for balance.

How I learned is I started in grass, just to get muscle memory. I then moved to standing still on asphalt, then to 2-5 mph, etc.
But regarding the feet, I have my feet slightly diagonal, with knees bent, I don't just place the foot down, I swing and once it touches the board I side it into the correct spot. And then do the same with the other foot. Then once it's done I slide my back foot to the end of the wheelbase. Then start over.
    This always worked for me.

I'm pretty sure that was aimed at me. If so, you're welcome. I love dancing on my boards.

If that wasn't aimed at me, woops.

I agree with Dancer- muscle memory is helpful. That is the way I started. Best of luck and keep at it.

the best way to practice dancing is on grass or carpet.

once you get comfortable with what you're gonna do, take it to the streets!
