    Default Cross Step help

I can cross step and pump just fine but it seems to me in videos the pro's can just keep cross stepping on flat land. On flat land I kick a few times to get to speed and I can really only lay 4 or 5 cross steps down before my speed dies. I carve pretty hard from heel to toe, could it be I am carving too hard or does cross stepping generally slow you down?

Sigh, I've been wondering this too. Doesn't help that I love to carve fairly hard as I cross step so I cut speed more. Been tinkering around with the idea of a motorized longboard for dancing, lol.
Anyways, subbing to find an answer.

It's about rhythm. Don't carve so hard to the point you are cutting speed. Practice wide carving

if you carve hard, you lose speed..right?

i dont carve a TON when i cross-step, but just enough to get it down. i could cross-step in the width of two parking spaces (maybe 1 now i think of it) easily. loose trucks will make you carve harder. thats why i keep might in the medium of tight/loose

Shouldn't have to tighten your trucks... Assuming you can't pump, try not leaning so hard. You are probably leaning too hard. You sound like you are baking tight U-turn type carves. You won't gain any speed doing those.
