you need to do around at least 2 spaces consistently. Its all about practice. It is definitely similar to a nose manual and completely different too. The biggest thing about the G turn is patience. That means:
    Don't turn too hard
Don't swing it fast when you feel like you are about to end the manual.

Be patient and the longer and more round your G turn will become. And also, if you start a good g turn, you won't have a problem with the pivot at the end

there is not real "requirement" for a g-turn, because as yu learn them you will get better at holding nose manuals in return, but here are the steps:
controlling/directing the board is mainly in your shoulders, s gradually rotate around youre shoulders in order to get the g-turn rotation. try to not make it so much of a nose 360 pivot, rather than a half circle, this is where the holding a nose manual will come in handy. Getting the gradual rotation is difficult, i found it easier to learn g-turns when i was first learning them to do them on banks or driveways. i hope this helps.

Try a Fakie G-Turn. I find it easier to manual with my back leg and backside turning is easier for me too.

Ya fakie is easier. definately keep trying, it takes a long time, 3 months in my case. But I started them when my best manual was like 10 feet. You don't have to be able to do manuals endlessly, but it helps.

agreed, I still cant pull off G-turns well but when I do its fakie. i used the other foot and wound up in ER from an intense cracking sound from my ankle when I rolled it.

I'm not very good at nose manuals but I'm pretty good at g turns. I've never tried fakie but it doesn't sound any easier to me. When you learn them make sure you really drag it into a C shaped manual instead of a pivot because a lot of people just pivot and it doesn't look good at all. Good Luck.
