I am going to ask you to name a few tricks you know, especially the ones which are really low key and not often seen or just ones that you have invented. I want to learn as much as possible and want to really see my options and I know there is more out there than the loaded challenges provide us.

I think longboarding should almost steer clear of that in the way that street skating has. To me it should be more about style and flow. Of course there are all the stock tricks that you should know (nosemanuals, 360's/pirouettes, hippy walks/jumps, slides, etc), but after that it should be personal variations of cross steps and combos of the moves, along with creative flow and lines. And I'd almost rather have these variations be unnamed because otherwise every small variation can be a "whole new trick".

In street skating it's necessary to say it's a fakie backside flip, and everyone (who is aware of the nomenclature) knows exactly what you are talking about. In longboarding you can do that to a lesser extent (ie. switch pirouette) or something like that. But past that I personally would rather see "then walk up the board a few steps and kinda hop back around...play with it and see how you like to do it".

Sure do, it's either that or the "ugly one-footed spin thing that looks like a ballerina"

(they're fun though...)

that's a cool way of putting it lee. longboarding is so laid back that there's no real 'need' to name every tiny creation. for example: my step-offs tend to be a 3-step instead of the usual 2, but i dont go around saying that i do the '3-step-off' or even call it the 'waltz-step-off move' ....for that matter i could even call it the 'skippity-step-off' but those names all just sound lame. either way, that just happens to be the way i like to do my step-offs. once every trick or quirk you do on a longboard has a name it takes away from the mystery and creativity that is longboarding. dont worry about naming it, just do it and have fun!

yea i understand that everything has a personal feel too it and variations are done a lot more than the actual "trick" but im just trying to see what is out there as in the basic tricks from which everything else evolves, like cross step becomes a slightly different version for one guy but its still a cross step, i dont know if that makes sense.

ya, no doubt...as far as tricks go, i'm sure you know all the ones the adams do by now like the cross-step, cross-step other side, step-spin, nose manual, g-turn. as well as the variations of those like the reverse cross-step adam and louis do on the slide help2 video. then there's that nifty step-off trick lee does where it looks like a longdrag step-off he does over both sides of the board. i even saw this one video where this dude does an oldskool flip from the street onto a sidewalk. crazy stuff. fatbastard even does this different kind of cross-step other side where he takes his 1st step with his toes pointing to the heelside of the board instead of the toeside and the other foot points to the toeside. there's so many possiblities out there and i know i've seen and thought of trying some new stuff myself, so i totally know where you're coming from.... these tricks i mentioned are just a few.

Is there a good collection of boardwalking-type video links? That might be more useful working on a taxonomy of all the "tricks."

In fact, I just made ya a thread here Boardwalking Vids Collection: Post Cool Vids Here. because I couldn't find one.
