To an extent : The faster, the easier.
If you try to slide going a walking pace, you will not succeed.

You can always make gloves yourself, just get some work/garden gloves, and add pucks of some sort.
You can get Corian samples at somewhere like Home Depot, or some people cut and melt pieces of cutting board onto their gloves.
like i put heaps of weight on back foot and crouch right down and turn as sharp as possible jst doesnt seem to work
you want to put your weight on your front foot and make sure that front foot is close to the bolts
also make sure your trucks are pretty loose...try learning to pump if you havent yet because this motion really helps get in the groove of kicking that tail out.
also remember the slide should come from your hips. not your legs. always stay centered and keep your weight low through the slide
at pretty good speed test the water a little bit by incrementally increasing the force of your turns and your hip twist to safely guage what kind of preassure and turns you'll be getting the slide in.
Once you get little slides in you can work up to digging in and doing more gnarly hacks.
have fun
