    Default Pumping

Can someone give me some tips on pumping?
I was going down a fairly flat road yesterday after riding some hills with my friend on his stunt bike. I started trying to pump and actually started accelerating past him, but I looked ridiculous like I was just humping the air.
Is there some better technique to pumping than my crude method?
    tips anyone?

Practice. There are a bunch of articles online on how to pump. Read those and try to do what they say as best you can to get your form down but really most of it is practice. I've only been working on my pump for a month or so and just by going out and pumping around almost everyday I'm getting a lot better quite fast. Also what kind of board are you using?

Pumping was and still is hard for me to get. I started running cones on my 44" comet and learned to pump the hell out of it. Now when I step on my pp the **** goooooessssssssss

Pumping is diferent for everyone. It depends on your stance and if you got rythem. Just keep trying it and you will refine your pump and get better.

Yeah... it does look kinda goofy....

My wife told me I look spastic doing it.... It made me all self conscious about it....

So I stopped skateboarding around my wife.

I find, however... that it looks less spastic if you rotate your shoulders perpendicular to the board.... and stand with more of a parallel stance....

    (45 / 30 in snowboard talk)

I find that this also helps with the rythm, but takes away from the power.... hard to explain.... you can kinda 'lead' better with your shoulders. It looks less like humping and more like bad dancing.

the only way of pumping that doesnt look spastic is using both hand, hips, and most force on a bentknee back foot. i fot the form from watching dogtown and z-boys, watch how they turn in the school banks section. its tricky to get, but once you get it, you look stylin' and can pump like no other.

haha I used to do that. I call it my "windmill pump". I've been trying to get a better stronger pump lately. 2 of the guys here have an amzingly strong pump. I looks like they touch thier knees with thier hands and alternate it between the cones.

I find i pump way harder in one direction than the other... If I could get my frontside pump to be as hard as my backside I bet I could really get going fast.

pumping is only one side stronger....
its like you get one direction and then correct yourself.

Watch a skate video from the early to mid 80's.. they almost all have pumping and cheesy story lines.

Its funny how much skating has changed, I rarely see anyone pumping on the streets anymore.
