I am learning how to cross step on my sector 9 dreamwave right now.. its 38" long with a 25" wheel base.. I wear a 10.5 shoe..
I am finding that I am running out of board really qwuickly and when i do cross step correctly I cannot link them together because it is mainly with surgical like precision that I pull it off.. I have a new 50" board coming though... What do you think? WIll it get easier?

you can still cross step your 38"...make sure you go into a carve when you do it
if your regular go into a heelside carve, then cross over and when you bring you now back foot forward go into a toeside carve....have your arms up in the air for balance, it really helps
Pointing your toes forward like in the Adam^2 trick tips video really helps. It helps you carve and also gives you more room (but you have to have your feet very close together and hang your heels off the board). The mroe you do it the easier it is to keep your feet close during the steps without feeling awkward. Also on the 50" board it will get a lot easier.

I find it really easy on my 58" deck (and I'm utterly useless)!
I've been trying to walk on a Landyachtz Mummy (33"ish) recently and not only is the lack of foot space an issue but forwards balance is more of a problem too. I've found that as soon as the crossed foot is weighted near the centre of the board the thing feels like it wants to stop in its tracks. Read about the issue on cross step how-to's before but its never been a problem with a long wheelbase.
You will get better and more stylish with practice

Carving while cross stepping is the key. Kind of scary at first, but feels so good when you make it, and it looks like 10.000.000 times better too.
That is a blatant lie....jk carving is very good and stylish while cross stepping
