    Default in mph

    1-10 stepping off or running off is possible no worries (helmet)
    10-15 running off is possible but can be sketchy
    15-20 running off is an amazing feat wind whip happens to clothes
    20-25 things speed up and the gravel seems smoother (gloves/pads)
    25-30 the road is a smooth black path and you focus farther down
    30-35 eyes begin to water a little bit wind is loud (glasses)
    35-40 eyes water a great deal and tunnel vision begins (partial leathers)
    40-45 you begin to plan for things you can't see (full face)
    45-50 you are aware of the slightest alteration of direction (full leathers)
    50-55 minor changes in body structure make you aware of wind drag
    55-60 your cheeks can fill with wind and slow you down
    60-65 the street is glass the side is a blur FOV is a teacup (parachute)
    65-70 I think the record is somewhere around here for standup

    I have never gone past 50 so in all honestly maybe my cheeks would fill with air, anyways I hardly go past 30-35 these days, just my opinions...

    I get the eye rivers at around 20. I wear glasses and it doesnt help. Nothing like blinding yourself at high speeds

    i think MK hit the nail right on the head...it's pretty accurate. 40-45mph was the fastest i've ever been... it was in upstate NY this past summer on a 2 mile long run, that ran from the top of a hill through a town and to the river...i had the tunnel vision thing going on, the slightest movement from my tuck would cause me to blow across the road a little...my eyes weren't watering (had a full face helmet) but i could hear my vents whistling and could feel the wind ripping at my fingertips and pant legs...after 40mph (the second drop) i got over the intimidation, and then everything seemed to go silent...other than the sound of me ripping through the wind. it was one of the most tranquil feelings i've ever felt. ripping across the road at 40mph silently was just the best feeling in the world, mixed in with the stoke, the shock, and the thrill... then racing through that country town turning heads was probably the best. these kids had probably never even heard of downhill skateboarding, much less seen a longboard in there small town.
    from the heaven i\'ve had, and the hell i\'ve been through... i\'m always comin\' back home to you.

    Default measuring speed

    Me and my nerd buddies used to set up a timing lane. We'd put one guy near the bottom of the hill, and another guy with a stopwatch 75 feet farther down the road. When the skater passed the first guy, he'd drop his hand and the 2nd guy would start the stopwatch. When the skater passed the 2nd guy, he'd stop the stopwatch. Once we knew how many seconds it took to go 75 feet, we'd convert to MPH:

    2.0 sec = 25.57 mph
    1.9 = 26.91
    1.8 = 28.41
    1.7 = 30.08
    1.6 = 31.96
    1.5 = 34.10
    1.4 = 36.53
    1.3 = 39.34
    1.2 = 42.61
    1.1 = 46.49
    1.0 = 51.14

    i agre with most of you accurate except the tunnelvision. ive been around 45 or 50 (using the next to car method) with no problem with my vision. i had sunglasses on that are pretty close around the eye though. i would advise helmet and pads though the first time i did it i got bad wobbles on the third time down. i think it was from fatigue from the adrenalin. i would have been fine except for the car that came around the corner. busted hard lots of rash but thats it. so cover your skin i went back the next summer and was fine. had a helmet and long clothes that time but didnt need them
    I\'ll go first...

    i had gone 45 on rollerblades back in '96 with my sister following behind us down a hill in corona, ca.. i stopped blading shortly after that feat. now i just got a sector 9 luke nosewalker 55" a few weeks ago, and already have had my nuts run and hide on the hills in redondo beach. can't wait to get some more stability and cajones to hit the big'uns!
