Default My first board is coming soon...

So apparently, I am an "addicted cruiser," but I have yet to own a longboard. This will change starting tomorrow - hopefully. My dragonfly should be delivered.

I just wanted to get some general advise from everyone before I go out tomorrow - the second after it comes - and kill myself on the road. This will be my first time skating for probably more than thirty minutes, so few I'm pretty much a super newbie. I am really not interested in dying an early age or breaking the board the first day, so if you guys could just throw down some advise. Maybe some personal experience from when you started out yourselves? But yeah...I'm super stoked. I just hope I don't go too crazy.

    congrats man,

first learn to push and feel comfortable at that speed...

and from that point on it's all you...
The sage, Longboard Buddha once said, "A tree spends 100% of its lifetime in a static environment and only after its reincarnation as a deck is it allowed to move at fast speeds...
when allowed, the wood will give thankless service if
    allowed to flow."

YOU CAN'T SLOW THE BOARD DOWN BY STEPPING ON THE WHEELS. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.

    otherwise, break a leg.

Have fun. If you aren't having fun, then what is the point?

My little brother called to tell me my board is here, but I still have another four hours at work. These are going to be the longest four hours ever.

Practice exaggerated, curb-to-curb carves that scrub off more speed than you need to on gentle slopes. You want to get comfortable carving hard so you can increase your speeds without getting surprised.

Remember to keep your weight behind that front axle (a lot easier to do than on a shortboard), but don't ride the "back" of the board: your longboard will carve and turn better with weight on that front truck. So, if you're used to having a foot on the kicktail, for example, but your board is longgg, you should base your stance off the lead foot and may have to ride the rear foot more forward than you usually would on a shorter board.

    Smile. You're a longboarder now.

Have Fun ! The best trick to learn is to ignore what other people think of you and just do your own thing.

    1. ride your board constantly everywhere you go and everything you do for the next three weeks and youll feel so comfotable on it youll be able to do anything. basic longboarding is really simple if your just comfortable on the board.

    2. don't ever tense up, always be loose and just flow with the board
    tense up=speed wobble=crash=pain

    3. don't ever think of crashing. the second you let crashing into your mind, your gonna do it. so from now on YOU DON'T CRASH
