Yep, been there many times.
I landboarded for two years before going to the water.
Done it with sails, Skimbat, Windwing Foils, Flexifoil Blades, Ozone Frenzy's, Peter Lynn Arcs, Peter Lynn C Quads, Wind Tools Mosquito, Advance Foils.

No - it's bad actually. I can't think of any land spots that are decent, there's far too many structures, trees... no open spaces. This is one of the biggest, and it's just because the college campus is somewhat open, and there's a stadium parking lot on the other side, so it's "doable".

The divorce has absolutely drained me this year... I'd have something newer than a 2005 12m Slingshot believe me. I've gotten far more use out of my 3m training kite, actually.
Let me know if you are getting new gear next year - I hope to be in a better position last year (working on that at the moment), I'd be glad to take those kites off your hands!
Honestly though, I love going out on Lake Erie when it freezes.
Hamburg beach has great wind patterns - almost always cross-shore, and usually downwind heads towards Woodlawn beach.
You don't go all the way to Lake Ontario from where you are, do you?
I don't think I'd do it at all, if I didn't practically live biking distance from Lake Erie, honestly - time is another thing I haven't got enough of!
I'm from Rochester but I live in Austin Texas.
I kiteboard here in Austin but I also go to Corpus Christi on the Gulf all the time.
Its a four hour drive but the wind is absolutely beautiful all the goddamn time.

Nothing wrong with it, it's just a fat aspect ratio for one - sort of a "beginner model", which is OK, I have no complaints about that. And it's still in great shape.
They have some sick looking kites this year, even last year. It's amazing how the technology has progressed - if for no other reason than relaunchability... bow kites look really interesting too.
The T2's are bow kites if I'm not mistaken, right?
You are lucky to be in Texas, warm kiting year round I bet!
Although, I must say, it is fun snow kiting with a snowboard. The real downside is that you have to wait for Lake Erie to freeze first. Although, my friends know of land locations that are decent in the winter - but IIRC they involved quite a drive.

We can put a fifth line on your kite and it will go upwind better and will relaunch perfectly every time.
Also way safer for launch and land on your own.

Yes the Turbo 2 is a bow kite.
Very powerful, lots of range, huge lift for jumps.
A little slower turning than a Rev and the bar pressure is higher also.
IIRC, it's an octane. It may actually be an 04, I bought it in 05 as a "last year's model", a little cheaper. Might even be the fatty kite before they called them Octanes. I never get caught up in that, I feel a little foolish that I don't remember the name, lol. Octane sounds correct.
Slingshot bar, same vintage, nothing special, but not any of the fancy pulley systems or your T2 has it's own thing gonig on, right?
Relaunching isn't too bad in the snow for some reason -but I know it's a bitch in the water.
Most of the guys I know here are good enough - they just don't drop it.

The Octanes are 5 line kites and relaunch beautifully.
Octanes are great kites.
They go upwind extremely well, super stable and totally safe with the fifth line.
If it is an Octane it is a keeper, don't get rid of that one.
Octanes were '05.
Essentially, it just tugs a corner to drift and lift the one side up into the air, right?
No, the fifth line is attached in the center of the leading edge.
Pull out the kite and look at the center near where you inflate your leading edge and look for a cloth loop that looks like your other attachment points.
It is very, very likely to have a little black loop there.
When you find that you want to get a fifth line like the rest and you can attach it there and run it down and attach it in the middle between your two front lines on your bar.
You can use some leader line from West Marine to compensate for any shortage of line, you will use the leader line on the bar end of things and then I can talk to you about attaching you leash to the fifth line for true safety. (Let's get you through the first step and we can go from there).
When you drop your kite and it is sitting on the water slowly pulling you downwind you can just pull the middle line in until the kites tips back on it's back and then you go one way or the other with your bar and the kite will move to the edge of the window and will launch easily.
No more swimming towards the kite and all that crap.
Your kite will also keep it's shape better and will blaze upwind in gusts.
Five line is the way to go with the C kites like yours.

This will make your kite perform much better.
Also, I do not think you have an Octane.
When you pull the kite out to look for the loop, tell me what model kite it is.
