i live in fairfield county, tell me what road that was, i want to see that sign. there is no way in lawsuithappy fairfield county that a municipality is going to take the liability of allowing skateboarding on a public thorofare, especially in such a populated area with such traffic volume.
skaters keep forgetting that the roads are for motorvehicles, you have no intrinsic "right" to be skating on a busy road. skaters, runners and bicyclists create a hazard when attempting to utilize roads such as that one. while not necessarily illegal, its not the best discretion, or particularly responsible.
the motorist was also very wrong, acted very dangerously, evaded responsibility and was purposely trying to assault you guys with a motor vehicle. he should have been arrested, and you guys ticketed.
For all of you who keep complaining about the sign, he already said that it was merely a sticker that someone slapped on a road sign.
well then, he's screwed.
at best he could still easily charge the guy with something like aggravated assault with a deadly vehicle, etc., but then be ready to pay some fines for violating whatever municipal and/or state laws he broke longboarding there.
you can usually google and find out exactly what your local laws are. i know in seattle there are no "free" zones like that, major arterials are banned, and on side streets they will tolerate it, but can always nail you for "playing in the street" if you pull attitude.
but in portland oregon there are signs on the streets specifically allowing skateboarding!!
I'm pretty sure the guy in the SUV was more of a hazard in that scenario. If you get ticketed, so be it. But that dude is looking at a license suspension and possibly jail time. I know a kid that got 4 points on his license for going 20 over the limit in a 25 zone... That guy is also speeding. There is a point in which the cops / judge will look at what's "more wrong."
My girlfriend is a lawyer she looked at the video and her commit was that he could be charged with reckless driving, assault/battery by motor vehicle.
I could not tell if the license plate number was visible in the video.
I would have just tried and catch him and taken him out right then. But that's just me and the way that I roll. I think that it would be really nice to go ahead and file charges just to see where it goes and to let him know how serious this is. You could have really be hurt bad in my humble opinion.
Nice hill though. I have been thinking about getting some of those road closed signs and placing them at intersections when I am skating. Just a thought.
even if i had to pay a $200 fine for boarding, I'd definitely report the incident as soon as possible, then post your video in a lot more places.
see if your local papers do a "police beat" type of report, where they publish recent offenses, and make an example of this guy after this winds it's way through the system -- which will likely take many months...but totally worth it here.

Re: Huge accident with a car...
sadly i agree with dave_p. as much as the driver was wrong in what he did, he wouldn't of done that if you weren't there. plus, i dont think skating down the middle of the lane is legal in most states.

Wait a minute. If it wasn't illegal then why should they be ticketed?

sounds more and more like it was illegal. 99% of the time it still is, IME.
so i don't know why he originally posted the B.S. about the Longboarding is Allowed sign, that's just dumb if you're trying to be taken seriously.
anyway KIMBLE, I don't think any driver is justified in pulling off a completely unnecessary, Road Rage move like intentionally stopping in front of someone and putting their life in danger.
considering the multiple-ton weapons they're aiming down the streets using a steering wheel, a gas pedal and brake -- drivers have an even bigger responsibility to not lose their heads.
This made the homepage of Break.com. This particular site offers 400 dollars to anyone contributing a video to the frontpage, but only to the people who made the actual video. Contact break and speak to them about claiming your money. That should set you up with some nice decks for your trouble, and don't bother speaking to the police. That might get you in trouble.
Once again, collect your 400 and call it a day.

None of you asshats are in the hammers shadow but, I will say the new year will bring some forum changes, one of which will be much stricter enforcement of the general anti-hater TOS rules.
yea i still dunno what were gonna do we have his license plate but i feel like if we would report him they would forget all about how he almost killed us and focus on the fact that we were skateboarding...(if your under 30 nothing you say could possibly be correct) and we would end up being screwed over so i dunno what im going to do
