35 years old, you can't really expect old dudes to stay uninjured skating ramps of that magnitude

More like you can't expect any fall on a ramp like that to end good, regardless of age.

I am watching that right now and I noticed these little rectangular things next to each truck about the size or a baseplate. Does anyone know what those are?
I noticed lot of grabless tricks.... magnets?

I think those are the sensors for the "huck meter" maybe?

I was glad to see Jake Brown get the gold. Dude just about had that 900. He just needed another run or two to get the balls to stick it. He had it.

ah is that how it works? i always assumed they had like video cameras in the column, but sensors make way more sense. I assume the same thing for snowboard half pipe? like put sensors in the bottom of your pants or in your coat pocket or something?

They may mount the sensors on top of the snowboards somewhere. idk

So how long until they bring back downhill racing to the X-Games. The popularity is growing and we know ESPN is always looking for the next new thing to exploit. It's all about the ratings.

I was stoked that that one guy got third. He seemed real stoked on it too. Although so did the other two young guys that were in third place before him.

Bob just kind of bored me this time. That is saying something since he is one of my favorites. It was just the same run as last they said and it felt like it. It was still an impressive trick but I wanted to see him go for more.

After the way Danny nearly killed himself last year I was glad to see him doing the commentary.

This years was not quite as exciting as last years though.

I can't wait for the park contest on Sunday.

Agreed, but at the same time the last 2 years were SO dramatic, it'd be hard to top those.

I saw a clip of BMX park qualification for like 2 minutes today, and the park looks epic (at least one of the parks) real flowy, lots of bowl action (including one part that had pool tiles as a coping )

i also read something about a 12 stair set and a brick banking, i love x-games

I'm pretty sure if you gave any one of these guys a DH board and they'd be winning races.

I don't know about that, as some pro skaters make it seem like they can't ride more than 50 yards unless its on a ramp or pushing towards some rail. Many of todays (shortboard) pro skaters, mainly the street ones, don't get the concept of cruising or lines..."Lets just push, trick on an obstacle, get off board, turn around, push towards obstacle, trick, get off, turnaround, and repeat for 90 seconds..." Their legs might get tired if they have to stand on their boards for more than 90 seconds and use their legs to bend and turn instead of kickturns...

at the same time if you have been a pro for 20 years, i'm pretty sure you are comfortable on a board, especially if you ride the mega ramp. I was hearing speeds around 45 mph? 35 or so on the landing ramp? and that's on shortboards. Maybe it'd take them a little time to get used to a race deck, but they'd figure it out.

Don't think danny way really deserved to win the gold for big air rail though,. switch 50-50 is alright, bum leg or not. but nowadays being able to pull tricks switch is more of a necessity. flip then grab then rail should win

Well, I think some, like Danny Way could do it, but as you mentioned, he has been skating for 20 years or more, and has seen skateboarding go through various phases...I was referring mainly to the newer, pros. And while the boards used on the Mega Ramp/Rail were shortboards, many of them had wider trucks than usual, so I guess they did steal a bit from the downhill guys....

If you're moderately proficient street skating or on a ramp you should be able to kill it on a longboard in short time. It's a different skill set but one that harnesses the same type of balance, technical aspects and balls as other types of skateboarding but in different ratios. Lots of people give up skateboarding because it's too hard and take up longboarding, I'm not sure it works the other way.

I'd LOVE to see some DH on X-Games. it would hopefully pave the way to get some more sanctioned races.
