Zak got a whole trunkload of boards stolen last year.

Re: the dirty not so little secret that is RUINING skate events: thievery!
Is there not a secure tent with a ticketed system and a security guard at races. Like a coat room?
If not, there should be.
Sorry you got it stolen Zak.
Its a fairly distinctive setup,... if anyone sees someone else riding it........
Dont eat lead paint.

Re: the dirty not so little secret that is RUINING skate events: thievery!
The ultimate fail is stealing some one's stoke. Death To The Thief!! I used to do sport bike racing and the rule there was that if you got caught stealing someones stuff then you were banned from racing for life. I think that's what thieves deserve.
I can't figure out how to put my Zealous signature here.....

Re: the dirty not so little secret that is RUINING skate events: thievery!
Good luck wishes to Zak.
It shouldn't have to be a consideration, but If you lost a 'trunk load' of decks at an event last year, it would be my prerogative to not lose more gear. It should have been locked in the car, or left in a place where it wouldn't matter. Similar to what Lead suggested.
The REALLY sad part is that whom ever stole it probably isn't even riding it.
Good luck Zak, and for shame on whom ever snatched it. I hope the fleas of 1,000 camels infest the thief's pubic region.

This isn't new! We've all seen postings about boards swiped from the infield at Maryhill in years past. It's a big area with open access for visitors and a few hundred yards long. People leave stuff out by their car, 300 feet behind a stand of trees, for hours. There's a longboard/fest atmosphere and 99% of everything is trustworthy -- you let guys you don't know try boards, vendors leave things out when they get lunch, people pick up lost stuff and find the owners...etc -- but there are people there with other ideas.
Anyone see the Goldendale Tribune today? The Mayor has this sweeeet speedboard.

I just blacked out and had a glimpse of the future:
At next years race someone's going to try to get that sucker autographed.

Re: the dirty not so little secret that is RUINING skate events: thievery!
Stealing a longboard is a stupid idea. It's like stealing a hoodie. You're going to use it outside where everyone can see you.
Like what the ####. I can't believe someone would steal a board at all, let alone at an event! >_<
People these days.

I feel for the dude; but leaving your expensive boutique downhill board unattended is not a good idea.

I'd like to catch an act in progress, I would.
I feel bad for Zak and anyone else that gets snuck but on the other side... put your toys up and you won't have that problem. You may think it's safe in a group of like minded enthusiasts but there's always rogues, interlopers and infiltrators.
I just left in my yard for a minute while I ran in and took a leak. SNATCH
I'd just rosined up my bullrope on the fence and ran back to the locker room to get my mouthpiece. SNATCH.
There was only a few other early anglers on the canal. I ran back to the car to get my lighter and come back to find my favorite rod SNATCH.
It was cold and I just left the car running outside for minute while I went in to pick up Johnny from the daycare. SNATCH.
Don't leave your toys unattended boys, there's always an opportunist around.
Sad but true.

Re: the dirty not so little secret that is RUINING skate events: thievery!
I hate thieves, but in places like that you have to watch your stuff, it doesn't matter where you are or who is around.
I remember a few years ago when a reporter I know had his laptop stolen at a football game. He left it on a table in a security-guarded press room. Most people use a lock cable, I even lock mine when it's on press row at a basketball game. Nobody could have gotten in there easy and nobody saw it disappear.
Another guy I met was shooting basketball. It was TV, the arena was packed and a cop was standing on the floor where he walked in. He set his camera bag on the floor behind the wood floor and sat in his spot. They think it had to have been a spectator, but someone made off with the bag. It had his keys, wallet, cell phone, a camera body and several lenses in it. They probably got 10K in gear. His car got towed because he was only planning on being there a few minutes and he parked next to a loading dock. The camera gear was not his property, but he had to explain it to his boss.
Anyhow, I know skate events are different from college sports events but if you are in public you have to be responsible for your stuff. Especially at events where a lot of people know a lot of cool gear is going to be around. It only takes one POS excuse for a human to be there in a crowd of thousands to spoil your day.

I always think of skaters as inherently cool people.
But once any scene expands beyond a tight-knit group, it inevitably attracts a small minority of scum.

laptops and purses ... sheesh! So many of our lame brained field sales rep's get ripped off because they run in to make a call on a doctor and leave the laptop there on the seat. If not on the seat, it's in the back seat with their purse ontop of it. Fricking guy peeks in and says TWOFER!!!
