Re: evolutions...the link is up...time to crash the frickin' servers here at the fish
Hi Gang,
can I take a brief moment to explain a few things here - just so you understand the relationship between CW and Evolutions...
1. skate companies PAY to be on evolutions...what they send, we put in. what they don't send, we can't put in. What you see, is what I got...it's NOT the same as the magazine...the evolutions dvd is really 2 hours of commercials...but they are commercials about skateboard companies
2. evolutions gets out there.- it's about exposure...we estimate over 250,000 see it...viewers in shops, in bars...in the privacy of their own home....the key concept is to spread the stoke. Of course, one mans stoke is another's disappointment. I have NO control over this. It's called PERSONAL taste - but please remember, for a lot of folks, this is all BRAND NEW.
3. You may love one part, or hate it all. That's your personal judgement and I respect it. That's the GREAT thing about skateboarding...if you don't like it, don't watch it again. if you like it, make copies for friends...if you are so-so about it, show it to someone who you is new to all this...
4. Think of evolutions as memento...in 40 years from now, you'll be looting through your attic and you'll find a stack of them..#2, #5 #22 etc etc...you'll turn on you ancient dvd player and marvel at it all...you will also cringe...and laugh...and you'll realize that we've come along way.
5. Silverfishers ARE the most demanding audience...and I expect NOTHING less. You guys keep me on my toes and keep this whole part of skateboarding moving forward. Your feedback is MOST DEFINITELY WELCOMED...in all facets of what we do at CW.
6. If you think you can HELP the companies who make skateboard videos, I strongly suggest you contact them...I am sure they'd welcome your video work. If anyone feels like doing a 30 second CW video, please go ahead...we can't pay you, but we'll give you a ton of exposure.

Re: evolutions...the link is up...time to crash the frickin' servers here at the fish
Coast Longboarding and Silverfish Longboarding are not skate companies.
They had they're part in the Evolutions, did they pay to advertise for nothing but they're discussion forums?
Did they pay a hefty price to simply advertise their skate crews?

Not sure Silverfish paid, but since their part is like 4hours or so, I guess they did...
Coast pays. I remember Bricin talking about it a couple years back.

Why isn't there a torrent? I think I'm gonna make a torrent.. I mean, it's free. We'd all have 200+kb if everyone who is done could seed this mother.

Re: evolutions...the link is up...time to crash the frickin' servers here at the fish
yeah.
working on it.
it'll be done in couple of hours, get your h.264 codec first, if you don't have it.
h.264 & AAC in matroska / mkv container.

you know there's a fast "new" way of distributing large files without having to pay crazy for hosting traffic and killing your bandwidth...and "crash the frickin' servers here at the fish". Bittorrent. everyone is doing it it. we all could help distribute it.

We gave people, anyone who wanted the opportunity to get their content in Evolutions, anyone who bitches that this or that should have been in there. We had over 20 minutes we were willing to give ANYONE.
We pay for over 12mbits per second of bandwidth specifically so we can distro evolutions, cw issues, articles, international longboarder, and all your images. So yes we pay a very hefty sum for the ability to have an evolutions chapter.
Which we want to give to the community... so they can share their stoke.

Re: evolutions...the link is up...time to crash the frickin' servers here at the fish
um.
i keep the same quality...or at least, as high as possible.
xvid kills too much detail from the dvd. Keep in mind, i only have old lappy with Core Duo T2300..hence the long-ass encoding time.
anyways..
Send big files the easy way. Files too large for email attachments? No problem!

Try this out if you want:
In the Xvid configuration panel, use H.263 as quantization type, and keep "adaptive quantization", "interlaced encoding" since it comes form a DVD and "top field first" ON...
Bitrate should be set around 800kbps, but 1000 would be better.
Install Ogg codecs for the audio as compression is much better than Mp3.
You should encode the DVD in less than 3 hours.
Your final product should weight about 1Gb.

Re: evolutions...the link is up...time to crash the frickin' servers here at the fish
been messing with xvid quite a bit..
i'm picky about encoding quality lol.
...also, 3 hours with two-pass or not? without two-pass it only takes 2 hrs-ish.
with..it takes quite awhile.
now, where's my autoGK..

Re: evolutions...the link is up...time to crash the frickin' servers here at the fish
I really did miss that post on the first page. Sigh.
Well now I'm seeding the 500m version and d/l in the 1.7g ver, which I will thereafter seed.
And on my next day off, in a week or two, I will actually watch this

Re: evolutions...the link is up...time to crash the frickin' servers here at the fish
what was with the bustin and coast videos?
that guy sketching then pushing off the front of a truck... with no helmet... pretty much the stupidest thing ever. I mean, isn't there a thread like 2 spots over from this one about a kid dying from sketching? a little responsibility would be nice. I mean.. the scene had absolutely no merit other than, "oh look at how badass we are!".
also, wtf is with that guy on the coast video? playing chicken with a semi? "joking" around with animal pelts? totally disrespectful, unfunny, and a drag on our collective scene.
seriously, wtf guys, wtf.

yeah....Bustin is pretty lame.
...but Coast? They've been a "drag" on our scene since before you even thought of buying a longboard. If it weren't for guys like Striker, longboarding wouldn't be what it is.
