I just looked at it larger and saw the 20% off coupon! I'm in for something good with that.

I bet it was because of the Generator so that the Rail kids can light up the stair set at night

Re: can someone explain why this ad is in SkateBoarder Mag???
I haven't even seen the ad but that doesn't matter; I don't need to to explain why it's in the magazine. Skateboarder is a for-profit enterprise that makes its profits primarily not from the price you pay for it, but from advertising. If the ad has no appeal to the magazine's readership, as you seem to imply, that doesn't mean that the magazine has "sold out" or is in any way not serving its readers well; it simply means that the advertising department has done a good job of conning some rube into buying ad space.

Re: can someone explain why this ad is in SkateBoarder Mag???
I think about the power of context...sure, the ad guys sold some space...but with skateboarding mags, the MEDIUM is the MESSAGE (cue famous Canadian media guru)...
My sense is that this ad, while bringing in some $$$, takes away from the message...and weakens their overall publication...but then again, that's probably why CW will never be big...like SkateBoarder.

Re: can someone explain why this ad is in SkateBoarder Mag???
That place is a junk store.
Everything is low quality. Half of the crap my dad bought from that place over the years just stopped working one day. They sell equipment with bad wiring too.
If anyone has bought a torch from them, replace the default seals. They leak gas...
Our table grinder crapped out after about 6 months, and we didn't even use it that much. It still looks brand friggin new!
I wouldn't buy anything that could kill you from there, like power tools, pneumatic tools, or anything else that could cause injury or death from mechanical failure.
I've seen their hydraulic jacks fail too... Luckily it was in the process of jacking up the truck, so no one was under it yet. Another seal issue. Air leaks out so it wouldn't stay up. Jack stands save lives.
The air compressor we got from there sucks too. It crapped out in about 2 years. My uncle's air compressor is many years old and it still works...
I have known about this store for many years. I give it a 1 out of 10. Worst tool store ever! Don't let cheap prices and good variety fool you. It's a junk store. It's all CRAP! Don't buy from there!
I'm not the kind of person to talk bad about a business. I wouldn't want people talking bad about my business. This store is a waste of money. If it doesn't break or crap out, good for you! From my experience, it's the worst place to get tools you depend on.
Making key points bold helped me to stop using a bunch of foul language, in case you are wondering.

There's a reason it's called Harbor Freight; everything came on a boat from China.

No. I've seen people that didn't skate wear skate shoes. It's like fat chicks wearing jogging shoes... Of course they don't jog, their fat.

Re: can someone explain why this ad is in SkateBoarder Mag???
I have a drill press that I use to drill my decks and for drilling and counterboring the holes on my home-made rails. I also used the same drill press to countersink the holes on the pipe I used for coping. I use a miter box to trim the rails' lengths and angled ends. I recently just outfitted my son with tools from Harbor Freight which he uses on skateboards and bikes and what ever. I have been looking at one of the small lathes for working wheels and rubbers.
When I first started out skating we would go to the flea markets to get the import tool sets (same concept as harbor freight) that we used to work on our skateboards becuase the Dad's did not want us losing their high dollar Craftsman tools.
Boards used to come undrilled. It was up to the shop to drill (as well as determine kick tail lengths, and get the holes straight). However since the majority of skaters and even the semi-old guys that started in the 80's (even early 80's) have never seen an undrilled board at a shop. New skaters do not realize the utility that tools have. They only know that johnny does their "grip" and swaps out their trucks.
So, no, it does not fit in the mallboarders magazine, but where the equipment function is paramount and mods are important, it could actually drive some sales.
Basically what the demographic says is that its a teen magazine. It could just as easily be a fashion magazine showing lots of clothing and shoes, and attitude. Oh wait, its already at that stage.

My comments represent a selfishly one sided 1970's skateboarder mindset, and do not reflect the current fashion-skate-lifestyle industry's views.
