What is so weird? There are tons of boarders who build their own boards. They might need some tools! Also the majority of skateboarders are men. Men are coinsidently the main target for tool ads.

from their media kit...
Skateboarder magazine is for skaters by skaters. And that’s not just another slogan to emblazon on a T-shirt. Skateboarder plays a vital role in skateboarding’s past, present and future. With our history and deep roots, the magazine still maintains a fresh and relevant look into the ever-changing world of skateboarding, reflecting on its evolution, while pushing along with its progression. With intriguing, in-depth and humorous articles to accompany the highest quality photographs. Skateboarder is as intellectually stimulating as it is visually refined. Our team of talented, connected photographers bring forth images truly second to none. So forget the old adage, this is one book you can judge by its cover, always bold, stylish and gripping. Skateboarder knows its audience. Driven by a staff of lifelong skaters and experienced, dedicated writers and photographers, Skateboarder identifies and works closely with today’s top pros, as well as its freshest faces, living legends and industry leaders to give an inside and accurate look into the real issues of skate culture. No filler. No distractions. Nothing a skater doesn’t need. Just skateboarding. And with that, Skateboarder has proven itself to be the true skateboarder’s magazine.

The add certainly doesn't follow their media kit spill and there is no doubt that they put the add in there just for the money. However Harbor paid for the add knowing that it would been seen by some of their target demographics. I personally would like to see a magazine with no adds, just quality unbiased info, however we all know that isn't gonna happen either. Bottom line is they are just trying to paying the bills in this sub-par economy just like everyone else.

I love going to Harbor Frieght! Even if it's just to look or buy something for $3, it's a cool store. My wife hates it, says it "reaks of manness".

Yeah it was funny. We were driving past there one day and I wanted to go look around. She walked in with me and got about 20 steps in there and decided she wanted to wait in the car.
Clarify one thing though, was this ad in the magazine or in an online version of the mag?

I am pretty sure it's a prerequisite to have an aluminium floor jack if you own a Cindrich setup...
