Experts believe that the odds of finding an apple with such a perfect line between the green and the red are more than a million to one.

What exactly does that mean? That one out of every million golden delicious apples looks like this? If that's the case, then every year there should be dozens of these suckers--hundreds, actually--and that's just in the United States, which produces several BILLION apples a year.

Or does "a million to one" mean something more like "in a million possible parallel universes" or some such?

Is this what they mean by "fuzzy math"?

grafting plants of two different types together is fairly common. It is relatively easy to create an apple tree that grows more than one type of apple. If you can graft the branches I don't see why you couldn't graft the fruit together. Although I don't know enough to say for certain that is where I would start to look if I wanted to create a half green half red apple.

Grafting of woody plants yes, but with thin/soft skinned fruit... I don't see that happening. If it were possible, there'd be scar tissue where the two wounds were spliced together and it scabbed over.
