The article about banning skateboards/longboards on your campus by Joseph Froemming was absolutely ridiculous.
I think it was a mistake to have published this because it was a completely one-sided opinion about someone’s dislike of a purely recreational method of transportation.
Joseph defaced the longboarding community as a whole.
While I do agree that some skaters do cause trouble and are not respectful of others on sidewalks or paths, he should not be allowed to lump everyone in that bad group.
His article did not even gather other peoples’ opinions on the matter. Therefore, I am lead to believe this is just a rant by a disgruntled pedestrian who is using and abusing a tool at his expense to further his idea that longboards or skateboards are a hazard.
I think it is extremely unethical to use a newspaper (whether a school paper or national paper) to complain about a small group just because he does not like them.
I do not expect an apology or retraction of the article, just be mindful of what you are publishing.
Singling out a minority, and not even getting their story, is wrong and just rude.
Had Joseph taken the time to gather opinions other than his own I would not be writing this as it would have been the opinion of the population.

Well, now a new beats has emerged that destroys sidewalk etiquette. They ride on four wheels which support a plank of wood longer than half the average student height.

Thank you verifying "sidewalk ettiquette" at your college. Also thank you for telling us who decides what the sidewalk rules are. If there is no "no skateboarding" signs, then you have no right to whine. Send a letter to the dean or the board if you want these so called banana boards gone.

They skate right through large groups of people, assuming they have more right to be on the sidewalk than the rest of us.
I cannot stress this enough: they are called “sidewalks,” not “sideskates.”
This is not a hard concept to grasp. If you are forcing people off the sidewalk while riding something, you should not be on the sidewalk.
These skateboarders are, after hipsters, hippies and terrorists, the bane of my existence.
Look, if students can’t walk the three or four blocks to school who don’t suffer from a debilitating handicap, then they are just lazy.
There is no need to skateboard around campus. It angers people like me and it is infuriating to have to move because some lazy student needs to wheel by on a skateboard that was popular in the 1970s..

Ok. Skateboards are faster than walking. Therefore it is difficult not to skateboard through large groups of people. If skateboards were as fast as walking than they would not be used, simple as that. Not a difficult concept to grasp. Skateboarding has been popular since the 50's you misinformed ass.

Banana boards were popular then, but seeing them today being used by kids dressing like they came right out the movie “Dog Town and Z-Boys” is as depressing as listening to an Elliot Smith album without taking the anti-depressants.

Pardon me. But longboarding has been around about as long as the skateboard and has remained popular until now. Sims made a "longboard" in the 60's, that style board was improved on and now the sport is just becoming more popular than it always has been. Now, people, before you go around trying to make a point, make sure you make sense and not make a complete ass out of your self

Why can’t we come up with a skateboard that hovers, like in “Back to the Future 2?”
I am tempted to bring a bag of marbles to campus and accidently spill them when some skateboarder or bicycle terrorist come my way.
Perhaps SCSU’s respect and responsibility workshop could include proper skateboarding and bicycling manners on and around campus. One would think this would be common sense, but apparently it is not.

This guy is an idiot. First of all he thinks marbles will stop a bike, also he thinks he won't get his ass beat if he throws marbles in front of a skateboard. I dunno about you, but i would be preeeetty pissed off. Like, trucks to the face pissed off.

I used to agree that “skateboarding is not a crime.” This past year, my attitude has changed. Skateboarding rudely on campus should not only be illegal, but punishable by expulsion or forced to eat Garvy every day.
That may seem harsh, but I don’t care. If people can learn to skate on campus in a way that does not force me into the grass, then I may change my stance. Until then, something needs to change.
