So far it's been Munnsville. Two of the best days i've ever had. Doing 50mph next to people i've met through Silverfish and just having a good time. Almost nothing beats the feeling of bombing a hill with your best buddies. Ahh what a great weekend.

When I ordered my second "board", a 1970's scamp. I have a blast on that thing. the wobbly, loose trucks give you such a rush to ride. there so old, you can loosen and tighten them by hand! well, I was just carving down the road, after watching Lords Of Dogtown, and had some ideas. soon enough i started busting out those 70's style slides barehanded. It was amazing. I still do it!
Next, I ordered my Landyachtz Bomber deck. I was anxiously waiting for it to arrive. days and days go by, and Sam from Landyachtz calls me and tells me there was a shipping error, but I was lucky because their machines broke down the day after I ordered my board. Well, their shipping is a bit difficult, so i decided to go COD. I had it delivered to my moms office. I was really getting excited for it to come. after about 1 week, I get a phone call from my mom. she tells me that a package arrived for me in the office. I get in the car and my dad drives me over there. I run inside, and see this long box waiting for me. I kiss my mom goodbye, and go to NYC with my dad to River Side Park. Now, that board with R2 180's and flashbacks with reds is amazing. my dad was walking, and i was skating. suddenly after going over the minor banks and smooth asphalt, I go down a hill, and bust a slide at the end. This woman is staring at me, and I was thinking "here we go. another tighta$$ who hates me for what I do." she gives me this look, and says "That was awesome!" I felt great. I rode all the way down from 110th street to times square, a pretty decent distance, to my favorite BBQ place, Virgils. It was one of the best days of my life, and I plan on doing it again on the 19th with some friends.
My last moment is when I started my first day of work. It was close to my birthday, today, and My mom saw me eyeing the earthwing superglider on their website. I get a call from work, and its my mom telling me she was in the blades on broadway, and she went looking for the board, without me even asking. She asks for help, and the guy says: "well who better to help you than Brian Petrie himself?" my mom obviously doesnt know who that is, but then Brian comes out and helps my mom with the board. So, i get the call, thinking my mom is calling to nag me, but instead she sounds psyched about something. I ask whats going on, and she tell me she's with Brian from Earthwing! Then, she puts Brian on the phone because shes too excited to talk and whatnot. He starts telling me some attributes of the board, and about his new superballs that are soon to be released. well, when my mom picked me up from work, i see that brand new superglider, reflecting the light in its woven material (I have no idea what it's called). I run home and set it up the next day with RII's and flashbacks from my landyachtz. Now, i have my Crail DH's on there instead of the Randals. Well anyway, this summer has been one of the best, and I want to thank Brian and the guys at Earthwing one more time for making my summer this great.
This was actually the best day of the summer for me too. Talking to you on the phone that day was such an inspiration to keep progressing, and never give up. It's hard trying to be mr. business. That day you reminded me of why I do this. I just happened to be there chilling, reading a skateboard business in the shop, and your moms comes in asking for an Earthwing. I was like what? really? It was awesome. You reflected the stoke back, and inspired me to keep going. You are a friend, and I have to thank you for throwing your trust in me. I will never forget that day. Thanks Nick...

Re: Best skate memory of the summer so far? Best answer WINS
went on vacation with my family to the only mountains in michigan. took my evo just incase i found time to get away and find a nice hill. while on our way to a hiking trail we drive up a very steep, very narrow hill and my dad bets me that I wont ride it. Now i've ridden some hills to around 35mph before but this hill looked dangerous. Still, a bet's a bet so we stop the car and i get out. I think of this now after the fact but it was a rather stupid idea at the time because I had no protective gear with me because I had no intention of skating. Jump on my board and start rolling down the hill carving at first with my family and poor frightened mother following behind in our expedition. I start to tuck and look back and start losing my family fast around the bends before my dad realizes i mean business. faster and faster and the hill is getting steeper and steeper. run around a slight bend and freakout! there is a car roaring up this narrow mountain road and no way for me to stop (not too good at sliding without gloves) I stand up to airbrake and decide that bailing is better than getting creamed by a car. Not knowing what happened after that I find out that I bailed going around 45 with nothing but shorts and a cutoff shirt. I only lost skin on both elbows and my left knee with the occasional strangly deep cuts on my hands (some of which were very deep but almost surgically thin). anyway my mom yelled at my dad a long time for putting me up to it, i almost got killed by a car and I went the fastest i've ever gone on a self powered vehicle, and my girlfriend gave me some nice sympathy loving when i got home. Plus I got some nice new scars I bet

skating the snakerun at night ( DANGER )
and falling asleep on my board , AND the guys decided it would be cool to wake me up in my tent by blasting a fire-extinguisher ( powder) in it, needless to say I was shocked and stood outside my tent in my underpants totally white with about 20 guys laughing in a circle around me, it was pretty awesome, I was already awake and at first I thought they were going to throw a dead bird in my tent so I was preparing to catch it and throw it back, BUT then I saw the zip go up and a big spray of white powder, I could taste it all day long...
luckily I inmediately saw the humor in it

-Seeing our group photo in the summer Concrete Wave on the 'Fish reports.
-Cleaning roadrash
-Coolest skate memory; bombing towards the end of a run when someone came up behind me. All of the sudden we were drag racing! It was scary. We both slid to stop for at least 10-15 feet since we probably hit 30mph. It's always more fun when you get the crap scared out of you at least once per session.

Buying my first board and just cruising around and falling immediately. I got up with the biggest smile on my face because short of death, nothing could have made me unhappy that day. Then going to a run with a few friends and bombing my first hill...best feeling you will ever have...short of sex =P

Watching my wife crack her ankle? No that's harsh, but it's sertainly one I'll remeber though.
But for the fun parts:
My first freeride in Houyet. Great organisation, great weather, awsome descent and doable for everbody, met some great people and it made me wanna eat Frenchbread with fries IN it more often

Re: Best skate memory of the summer so far? Best answer WINS
My best skate memorys of the summer are a tie between two:
1.) Teaching my girlfriend to longboard and watching her bomb hills, get wobbles, ride it out, and go again. I was so proud that she had no fear and would fall and hurt herself and then spring up and keep skating. And the satisfied look on her face when I woud tell her how to do something and she would get it on the first try.
2.) Seeing a video of someone sliding on silverfish and ordering a slide setup and gloves and pads and teaching myself to slide from reading in the forum. In particular last night when everything "clicked" and I got my stance and weighting perfect... that feeling of sliding at speed and being completly comfortable and in perfect control. Puts a Grin on your face everytime.
At the start of this summer I had 1 longboard. An old flexdex pro41 that I had been using for the past 5 years or so. I had no idea about how big longboarding had become... or how many options I had when it came to equipment. Since May I have purchased 3 complete setups and a box of extra wheels and hardware. The fish has increased my awareness and stoke about longboarding. Its been the best skateboarding summer of my life.

Re: Best skate memory of the summer so far? Best answer WINS
My favorite memory is always the last time I went skating! This whole summer has been very memorable. I got to meet a lot of the incredibly nice people whose posts I've read on Silverfish and ISSA, I skated a 13 mile long downhill grade in Alaska. In Las Vegas I was chased out of a parking garage by the security gaurd. I came out of a 28 year retirment and entered a couple slalom races this summer. My daughter started cone-dodging. The list goes on. The next time I step on a board - whether it's one of my longboards or my slalom board, it's gonna be my new favorite memory!

Re: Best skate memory of the summer so far? Best answer WINS
me, my brother and 6 friends went skating, well actually only me and 3 of the friends skated but what ever. and we were getting some excellent slide footage in on this hill with a 12% grade. then we decided we wanted some downhill too. so my brother sven had joked about getting us running into garbage cans and falling off the boards for some blooper footage. well as me and the 3 friend were racing down the turny steeeeeeep hill, the other 3 and sven had set up a bowling pin style kind of setup with the big blue garbage cans. yea sounds funny but none of us racing knew about it. there comes 4 kids flying around (me in the lead) right into the cans, 2 of them fell off their boards and me and the other one just kept going straight into one of our friends who was filming with sven, luckily the camera wasnt hurt but he get a lump on his shin and Sven got a bruis about the size of the palm puck on my sliding glove ; )

Re: Best skate memory of the summer so far? Best answer WINS
Haha ok I want to revise my most memorable moment to something that happened today....I was skating this hill called Parapet over near my house, its a relatively mellow hill with a max speed of maybe 35 (I was doing 25-30 when this happened). Anyway so this hill runs parallel to this fairly large wooded area for maybe 150 yards. As I'm coming down this hill I'm in my tuck wearing the full coverage helmet (not the greatest visability but it does the job) and out of no where this deer leaps out of the woods about 15 feet in front of me and pulls the deer in a headlight thing. I stand up and try to swerve but I can't quite make it around and plow straight into the deer's neck doing 25-30 mph. This would be funny enough except that at the angle I hit it I managed to completely clothesline myself on its neck. I was just like in cartoons how their legs fly out and they end up horizontal in the air. The deer gets knocked sideways and staggers a bit before sprinting off back into the woods while I'm lying on my ass trying to figure out how in the hell I managed to get clotheslined by a deer while longboarding. So yeah, that is by far my most memorable moment of the summer...getting clotheslined by a deer while bombing a hill

Re: Best skate memory of the summer so far? Best answer WINS
well it sounds to me like the deer had it planned. he probably had bet going that he wouldnt do it but he stepped up to the plate instead and knocked you on your ass.

Re: Best skate memory of the summer so far? Best answer WINS
This has been the summer of slide for me. Best summer of my life since 1984.
Part 1. Early June - Learning Coleman's from Cliff.
Part 2. Early July - Learning pendys from Malakai.
Part 3. Early August - Learning toesides from Tomahawk
Best Part - Realizing that in life and skating, I do not have to better than anyone else on the planet. I just have to be a little better than I was yesterday.
Definately looking forward to next summer.
Life is short, have fun.

Re: Best skate memory of the summer so far? Best answer WINS
i would say my best experience would be the first time i figured out how to carve.
Prior to that I had always just been bombing hills and busting a slide at the end (hadnt learned footbraking but fortunately taught myself sliding). I always had wondered how do you carve. Cuz I had tried leaning and stuff, but i just couldnt feel it. I had been looking through silverfish trying to see if someone could explain how to carve, but i guess it's so basic it's not really explained. Then I noticed someone mentioned "drop kneee carving", so that night I went out to a little hill id been practicing on, and dropped my knee and really cranked the board (that was when i had no idea about bushings or tightness), and lo and behold, it turned!
I immediately ran back up the hill and tried it again, then with the basics down, I worked on doing it from standing.
When I went back to my apartment I had the biggest smile on my face ever. My roommates were asking me why the #### i was smiling so much, and i explained it, but they just couldnt understand the simple joy of it.
and that to me is skating, just going out and having fun. It's freedom pure and simple. 90% of the time i'm studying, or working on this, helping someone with that etc, skating gives me that opportunity to just go out, have fun and be free. Once I step on that board and let gravity take over, nothing matters in the world but the piece of wood, metal and urethane under my feet, and the road ahead of me. it sets me free.
