I just read Michael's Blog entry today, and I'm not sure whether I'm merely in denial that "those" "skaters" are really skaters, making a fair distinction or just hoping everyone else does, but I've never seen this group of freaks embodied by Bam and Vito Margera as "skateboarding". Obviously, Bam is huge in the kickflipper world but I see these guys as the embodiement of "extreme" and "Jackass", rather than skating.

So, he had to be more extreme, and crossed yet another line. Should we be surprised? Who do we blame? Sure ain't skateboarding.

well, bam margera is definatly a real skater, hes a professinal street skater and was doing that long before his cky and jackass days, just because hes not known for his skating as much as his persona on tv (anymore) dosent take away anything from his skating, hes damn good at it. i dont know what constitutes someone as a real skater to you but to me its someone who rides a skateboard no matter what they do off of it. he might not be the best example of skateboarding to the mass audiance, but kids seem to love it(sadly).

Eh, one in every crowd. Bam is an excellent marketer, and has made skateboarding much more mainstream for better or for worse. Whether or not this affair is a black eye really seems insignificant, because at this point there aren't many fence sitters regarding skateboarding. If someone was going to pass judgement on the skateboarding world as a whole, I'm pretty sure they've already done it.
