Re: where were you, skate wise, 10 years ago?
I was riding a santa cruz shortboard, trying to learn ollies and wishing there was something like a skateboard with a longer wheelbase and bigger wheels for cruising and commuting

I was about 6 months from buying my first longboard.
a think joel tudor. with b52's and off road wheels. I was living somewhere with shite roads, when they weren't gravel.

what were you riding? I was skating one of many Natural Koncepts 33" Popsicles, street curbs, a bit of crappy concrete tranny and some cruising type DH.
what weren't you riding? Slalom
were you on the net? yes
what sites did you visit? nothing skateboard related

Re: where were you, skate wise, 10 years ago?
10years ago,
what were you riding? An Alva fish, vision lobster, or an S/C foam hold overs from the 80's, cruising on my steep driveway with berts, wondering if I would really ever fire back up seriously again on some real terrain. I still had a set of red krypts that I rode on the street and driveway.
what weren't you riding? I was not riding the skateboards like they showed in the magazines, nor was I liking what I was seeing with respect to skating.
were you on the net? yes, but not for skateboards
what sites did you visit? the first sites I caught wind of that opened up the door, were old school sites, most of which are gone now. But this was on up around 99 or so, not in the 96/97 time frame. Most of those sites were filled with old skaters that were not really skating, but rather buying and selling stuff. thats where I saw that the old boards were bringing so much $, but they werent being skated. thats also where I saw that old school seemed to be affiliated with the 80's skaters. A pristine painted pig from 87 was bringing more money than a teak torger johnson, go figure! Or a set of early, but run of the mill, Indy's worth more than a set of strokers, again, go figure! skateboarding seemed to have started in 85. For some reason, anything earlier was invisible.

My comments represent a selfishly one sided 1970's skateboarder mindset, and do not reflect the current fashion-skate-lifestyle industry's views.

Re: where were you, skate wise, 10 years ago?
In march 1997? I hadn't stepped on a board in probably 2 or 3 years, but I still had a board in my parents garage. Finally started skating again last year and it was definitely longboarding that got my attention.

Re: where were you, skate wise, 10 years ago?
That was a year or two before the city built a skatepark five minutes away from my house. skateboards weren't my thing at that point.

Re: where were you, skate wise, 10 years ago?
10 years ago i had a:
powell diamond logo 42" (still have) - park
s9 downhill 2nd gen. (still have) - dh
s9 cosmic 2 (still have) - pumping, cruising, park
s9 cloud(?) longboard - cruising, park
the s9 cosmic2 was what finally got me into building because even though i really liked it i wanted something different and with a snappier flex.
i seldom was on the net (at the design school), mostly for study-related research stuff.

"what were you riding?": I was still following doctor's orders, as well as common sense, to never do anything that might result in any sort of impact to my right wrist. Seeing a Van's skatepark in '99 made me throw common sense out the window...
"what weren't you riding?": Any type of skateboard, at that time...
"were you on the net?": Yes, but still bought my porn at the liquor store. Took way too long to download with dial-up...
"what sites did you visit?": Cycling related sites, as well as designing sites for a handful of local bike shops and manufacturers...

Re: where were you, skate wise, 10 years ago?
Ten years ago.....I was coming out of my four year hiatus with skating. I had bought a house so we built a ramp. Nice 6' half. 16' wide. I was starting over. The only thing I could still do was drop in. Had no disire for street skating. I mostly just skated my ramp. Loved surfing back and forth on my longboard on the ramp.
I was ridng an old Tim Brauch slick with Indy 169's and Leftover wheels. I also started riding my SMA longboard again. Indy 169's and Sims Street Wheels. Soon I was riding the SMA on the ramp more than any other board. Slowly started bombing and carving hills again.
I was not online, so I visited no sites.

Re: where were you, skate wise, 10 years ago?
I was 18 then. It was the simple times when my daily mission was to do as many drugs at a time and not come home sober. I had 3 girlfriends all in about the same time frame. No responsibility no bills. Oh yes the innocent times.

Living on the road in Nor Cal. riding a beat santa cruz duane, 169's, splitfire wheels.
Skating wise, just to the beer store, it was an ugly time for me. All that mess is behind me know. as for the internet-didn't know it was there.
