SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Some San Jose residents were begging for the public's help Thursday night after they were attacked by teens with skateboards, NBC11's Charlotte Fadipe reported.

Maria, Jason, and Dan did not want to reveal their last names because the attack left them seriously injured and terrified, Fadipe reported.

They were at a stoplight on Foxworthy and Meridian avenues in San Jose in a brand-new Lexus, coming home from a church party on New Year's morning.

Police said for no apparent reason a group of about 12 teenagers began hitting the vehicle with their skateboards.

"My heart was racing. It was like something out of a scary movie where someone is after you," said Maria. "I was thinking, God please stop. Why us? Why us? Who are they? I was terrified.""(I felt) just fear, absolute fear. I've never been through anything this traumatic in my life," Jason said. " The driver's side has the biggest damage of the door below the handle. That blow was aimed towards her head. That's the force they were aiming at her head."Jason and Maria had gotten married recently. Dan was a passenger in the car.

Blood was still visible in the vehicle as NBC11 interviewed the victims Thursday.The teenagers, both girls and boys, were dressed in black.Maria spent much of Thursday handing out fliers with information on a $10,000 award for anyone with information on the attackers and what happened.Dan was beaten the worst, Fadipe reported.Doctors said his injuries would take a year to heal."I took one to the forehead, one to the back of the head -- a couple to the arm (and) to my back," said Dan."They were going for his head with these weapons," said Jason."I want to cry," Maria said. "Because it's not fair that he is in pain because some kids were punks. So I want to cry.""They almost killed a man," Jason said. "They could have killed my wife, and they had complete utter disrespect for any human life or anything. It was relentless disrespect, relentless violence."The couple said police officers have told them their case is not a top priority because the department is understaffed.But late Thursday, San Jose police told Fadipe they were investigating the matter and want witnesses to come forward.The couple said they hope the $10,000 reward would speed up the process.The car will cost about $20,000 to repair, Fadipe reported.For more information on the $10,000 reward, go to NBC11's Skateboard Attack Info Page.

Shortboards and felons don't mix. I hate it when skateboarding is brought into every criminal act. It might as well have been baseball bats. At that point, it is no longer a skateboard.

i feel terribly sorry for the people who were attacked, but frankly, this has nothing to do with skateboarding. shame on the kids who attacked them, and shame on NBC for putting the wrong spin on it.

You can't ride a baseball bat. You can ride a skateboard.

If more and more of these types of incidents start happening, as everyone sees the possibility of hiding a weapon in plain sight, it will begin a whole new set of headaches for skateboarding.

Skateboarding needs to get its butt out of the mainstream market, out of the malls, out of limelight, and go back into the well controlled environment of privatized shops and skaters that really skate, as opposed to using them as fashion accessories (and weapons).

Yeah... that is really horrible that people would do that

Based on this article, I don't think NBC put a "skateboarding is bad" spin on it... thay just said that a group of teens attacked paople using skateboards as weapons... which is what happened.

and the area is not really bad either.
the kids were probably high or drunk from new years...

you're right, but i was making a judgement from the skateboard attack info page they have. i bet they don't have one for gun attacks, or baseball bat attacks, or anything else.

This just sickens me & it was not just a bunch of skateboards.It was a street gang that use skateboards as transportation & weapons.
Part of me want to reach out to these troubled kids & another part of me wants to introduce them to my P9 Kahr.

Yeah... it's not something you hear happening everyday, and, sadly, gun voilence is. Hyping the wierder/ more sensational stories gets better ratings. And this was a pretty bad attack in a not so bad neighborhood.

Let's see. They were described as teenaged (so we know they were young), boys and girls (so we know it was both boys and girls), they were wearing black (so we know they were fashionalble).

Let's see - what else could possibly be helpful to the Police in apprehending these teenage skateboarders (or people who were wielding skateboards as weapons but are not acutally skateboarders because they hadn't yet proved they knew the tricks qualifying themselves as skateboarders by the skateboaring community).

What else could there be that is a distinguishable feature of the humans that is readily identifyable? What could it be? There must be something obivious that I and the press and the victims just aren't seeing.

Think people. Height, weight? Anything else? Oh, this is so hard.

If you are a minor carrying a skateboard, most likely you skate.
Leave the investigation to the detectives, this is not online CSI...

No, the conclusion I draw from this event is that an act of random violence was committed. It could have been done with bats, guns, bottles, rocks, skateboards, etc etc.

Its not the skateboards' fault, and its not skateboarders' faults.

But, skateboarding has become such a statement within the mainstream (look at this billion dollar industry that supports skateboarding- shoes, softgoods, etc etc) that skateboards have became extremely commonplace, in places that they normally wouldn't be.

ITs not the skateboarding leads to violence, or anything like that. Its the accessibility and identifiability that everybody has or wants with skateboarding culture. The market is incredible and quite simply it opens up a sort of pandora's box that wasn't always there. If you are going to spread skateboarding to the masses (via the mainstream market), then it is likely going to be alternative uses for skateboard found. For instance using skateboards as instruments of random violence.

God I hate this kind of stuff. This justs helps the horrible stereotype that skateboarders are punks. Thisis why I get mean glares when people drive by just because I skateboard they relate me to these kind of kids.

Arent you from Tennessee DaddyYo? I believe this happen in San Jose, you have nothing to do with this incident, nor is your psuedo detective work gonna be of any help way over there basically across the country in Tennessee. Sk8norcal is right, this isnt online CSI. I try hard sometimes not to make negative comments towards you DaddyYo, but, its really hard not to when you make such ignorant comments.

With that said...

I think this is a sad event, i dont understand how kids (no matter what age) can get their jollys off by beating the sh*t out of innocent people just minding their own business. Dont get me wrong, when i was a bit younger i did some really stupid sh*t, but i never victimized innocent people just minding their own business bumfight style! The fact that they had skateboards is trivial to me, like previous people have said, this goes above and beyond being a skateboarder problem.

Also, i dont exactly understand why, if your being attacked in a lexus, at a stoplight, that the driver didnt just pull off? Maybe theres other variable i'm missing. Nonetheless, sad event.

if they were in a car why didint they start driving once they started hitting the car? if someone came up to me in my car and started hitting it i would drive away... even if some of them were in my way, roadkill.

We might look at this at a different angle. Ur right cruise, why didint they drive away. What if the folks in the SUV provoked the attacked in some way. See they only look like the victims because they reported it first. Have u seen what they look like? Semi attractive girl with 2 guys coming from a "church party" on new years day? These folks are about late 20's to early 30's tops. WTF are they doing at a church party anyway? They should be at home hung over.

Look guys, stop. DaddyYo...you have already succesfully trashed one thread in this forum to the point where it had to be closed and locked. Stop with the sarcastic, patronizing comments. If you feel yourself to be so much above everyone else that you must belittle everyone and take up a sarcastic tone everytime you post people are going to call you out on it.

Everyone else, don't give the guy the attention he's looking for. There is an option to ignore him so that you can't see anything he posts. Make use of it.

In regards to the topic at hand...It's a shame that the weapon of choice for the kids had to be blown into a main point of the story. There are street gangs in every section of the country that use weapons ranging from machetes, to hand guns, to bats to skateboards. I'm really dissapointed to see the skateboard aspect of the attack made into such a primary topic of concern. Who cares if they were skateboarders. There are plenty of people who are members of an otherwise respectable social group who have done awful things. Cops, priests, businessmen, teachers, and skateboarders.
