hey, they are missing the pad dads and longboarders.

and how about the aging tattooed 'hardcore' skater who drinks beer out of paper bag and gets high on weed and skates around stoned.

Here's another classification system. Its not so much from a perspective of mainstream breakout, but more of a look at possible classes of skaters in general.

Lip Fla’page » Types of Skateboarders
My comments represent a selfishly one sided 1970's skateboarder mindset, and do not reflect the current fashion-skate-lifestyle industry's views.

You guys really think there are girls out there who would be sponsored even if they were guys? I'm not seeing it. There are girls/women who are a lot better than me, but I've never seen any footage of any that are anywhere near pro or sponsored am men's level. But that's not surprising. It's the same in every other sporting activity and there is no reason skateboarding would be any different. I know we'd like to ignore/deny it for social/cultural reasons, but it's just a biological fact of life that males have a big strength and spacial awareness advantage.

nah Slim, I don't think anyone was saying that, it was more the other stuff..

Girls-Let's face it, girls just aren't that good at skating and therefore don't belong at skate spots. It has to do with their bone structure and their center of gravity. Don't be mad that you suck ladies, it's just science, and you can't argue with that. We all know that if Elissa Steamer had a #### and balls she would have never gotten sponsored.
I remember Elissa in a interview admitting, if she was a guy, no way would she be sponsored.

But the main point is that skateboarding have low women participation thus low ability level. Once the talent pool increases, the ability will rise.
    Just like surfing or snowboarding.

Regardings participants, I would like to see the participation numbers for surfing and snowboarding. In the current issue of CW, there is a Mimi Knoop interview. She states that 25% of skateboarders are women, 3 million, up from 11% from a couple of years ago. I don't know if I believe that 25% statistic, but there definitely seems to be more female talent these days.

At my local park, it's still quite a rarity to see a female skater. But I always enjoy watching girls skate, especially when they are good.
