recently, MB was complaining (as usual ) about some hair gel ad in Thrasher....

But somehow he happened to miss Duane Peters's skull candy ad.

MB, maybe you should call DP out on it....

Dude are you serious? Headphones in a skate mag vs. hair gel in a skate mag? HUGE difference, Skull Candy makes sick, quality headphones too. Plus if they got someone like DP to advertise it, then it totally belongs in a skate magazine.

No, I think you are the only one that has a problem with there being that ad in a skate mag. I see tons of people skating with headphones in (I do it sometimes too), music and skating just go together. Nothing wrong with a company like Skull Candy advertising either, they are more focused on the surf/skate/snow lifestyle then other headphone companies.

DP is also in a bunch of bands (the US Bombs and Die Hunns, most notably). I'd say that should have some bearing here.

I never saw this ad but I still dont see the big deal about having a headphones ad in a skateboard mag...Hair gel is one thing that doesnt belong, but that is obvious. A McDonalds ad or a Chevrolet ad would be out of place as well...But a company that supports a TON of skaters/snowboarders/surfers should be able to place an advertisement in a skateboard magazine, since the skateboard crowd is who they are appealing to. That is pretty much like you saying that all Nixon ads should be removed because its not a "skateboard" product.

If any company uses skateboarding in their advertising, especially if placed in a skateboarding magazine, then skaters are who they are trying to appeal to. If a pro skater starts a hair care company, uses a pro skater in the advertising, would this now make it any more acceptable? And if not, why? Since I see an awful lot of kids with skateboards and spiked hair, its obvious that many skaters use gel. My guess is that whoever advertised in TWS noticed the same thing, and made the same connection...

My parakeet wears a spiked Indy collar and always goes skateboarding with me. I want to see more ads with parakeets.
