Should You Date A Skater Girl?

same here.

i would like it if she could skate a little so we could go on small cruises but its fine the way it is. she gives me space, cares about my skating, supports me etc. shes great.

I get really mixed signals on this one, its either that they think its really hot and fallow me around the rest of the day or they HATE on me cause I don't ride a trick board & do tricks that they can't. As for a girl skater wanting to date a skater guy, yeah I would want to, but haven't yet. I like to skate by myself so I wouldn't want to be with them while I skated but it would be nice to have them know what to do, like turning the wheels around to uncone them or cleaning your barings. I would love to have someone that would push me and teach me new slides or DH. I always love going to cruises with someone I like, racing and carving back and forth crossing each other, that always makes me feel awesome, a connection only skaters know =)

You have no idea how much I hate being called "one of the guys". Its so hard being seen as a girl when I skate, I've almost stopped skating cause I would like to be seen as just a girl sometimes, Its like trying to get with a girl when they think your gay. What the f*ck.

I know what you mean about the mixed signals. Usually, guys are cool, and suportive... but I went to a garage sesh w/ out the BF once, and just basicly got ignored. I was basicly skating by myself... very different from the times I've been with my BF. I got the distinct impression that they didn't want me there.

Haven't been back to that sesh since then.

I love that my BF and I can go out and skate together. He got me into longboarding in the first place, and it's great to have someone that gets as excited about it as I do

Almost all of my close friends are guys, and there is deffinitly a thin line between being an accepted member of the group, and being seen as a guy. I've, thankfully, been able to manage being seen as "one of the guys," while it is still obvious that I am a girl. Kind of a balancing act to not loose the perception of femininity among a pack of wild boys.

Its funny I have surfed snowboarded and ski'd with women/girls/my wife for +30 years and it's always been fine. Skating however I just never see many women out skating but I certainly appreciate the ones who can skate and would never mock anyone for trying.

Yea, it's kind of hard to get seen as a chick while skating. I guess it also doesn't help that I'm not very "girly" but it's still kind of annoying. Being one of the guys is cool until you start looking for one.

I agree with Wells and also with the other poster who said,"Bring on the skate chicks!" or something to that affect.

It's kind of disappointing to see the few other guys whose masculinity is so fragile they are intimidated by the idea of a chick being better than them on a skateboard. And also kind of funny.

To the girls here, just keep skating. And don't assume the guys don't want you around. Guys aren't going to run up to you screaming with big smiles and say,"It's so brilliant that you're here! How do you like my new skate shoes?"

Some guys just posture an aloof attitude and others are really nervous about possibly seeing a woman get hurt. It's just an instinct that's hard to fight. They're also going to pick up on your attitude. If you're coming off like your feelings are hurt when they haven't actually said,"We don't want you around.", you won't be fun to skate with. I mean, if you're trying to talk with them and have a good time and they're blowing you off or shutting you down, they're probably losers or homo's who prefer skater-boy-butt-slapping

In that case, yeah, they'd be a total drag so blow them off and find some normal skaters. There's a Locations forum here, maybe you can find some more chill skaters in your area to hook up with.

19 years ago I had 3 weeks before I was shipping off to US Navy bootcamp. I chose to spend a week a Stratton mountain snowboarding before I left New England for Florida and then who knows where (turned out to be sandy ego) I got to spend most of that time learning how to snowboard a halfpipe from Kelly Jo Legaz (at the time Craig Kelly's wife) she shattered my ego but I learned a bunch

I wish I could be so lucky... I know of 1 girl who actually skates and that's my friend's (ex)girlfriend so that's pretty much off limits.

my girlfriend skates and its totally awesome. its just hard to teach cuz i get all too carebear with her. Just got her the board she wanted tho so she's going to be skating on her own! Its awesome to watch her carving around and just getting the hang of it.

i like girls that can skate.

My ex would go on a cruise with me, and do some minor dh and carving.
I found that to be perfect, i could chill with my lady, then go out with the guys and be insane, or slide, or hit the park, and she'd be at my apt, makin dinner...

it was a good deal

However, i dont know if i could date a hardcore shortboarder. around here, all the shortboarders have a very anti-longboard perspective.
I got laughed at and cat called last night, for riding my longboard down for a bowl sess, even though i had my park deck in my hands...

Dude, I love that my wife skates...I love to watch her skate, just like with alot of things, Ladies often have a slightly different approach to it. Often I see them as having more style, grace, and smoothness than guys. It is a wonderful thing to see. I can't wait to see my four year old daughter skate as she grows up.
Nothing cooler than a skater or surfer girl!
I also admire any girl that can put up with our macho BS long enough to learn to out skate our butts!

Friends With Benefits
You like talking about skateboarding, but when it comes down to her tagging along with you and the guys to go skate, you're over it. And while you like teaching her tricks, but you'd like it better if she wasn't gossiping about skateboarding all the time.
