Re: Another rant on the non-issue of age...
well a couple of yrs ago I wouldnt have thought I was going to enjoying skating let alone making my own stuff, joining forums and getting to discuss all this with people from all round the globe,
your age seems to be something that helps society put you in a box, Im 43 own a business so i should be a responsible adult. hmmm. I think I am,
A policeman told me recently that I shouldn't be skating through town because I set a bad example for the young ones, Lets brake that down, Im a nice guy, dress well , Im a business owner in this small town, I dont do drugs or advocate them, Im supportive of local events and Im wearing a helmet,
Im about as good as it gets,,
Age will always be an issue, whether its about how your body is coping with wiping out in a local garage, or how well others see you do" for your age".
I like to see guys and girls "my age" skating just as much as younger ones, and we all learn from each other, either wisdom or technique,
some of the coolest people Ive met have been 1/2 my age.
and some of the most repugnant twice my age.
To me its all where your heads at, so you skate and your 10, 20, 30 ,40 50+
Have a look whos out there on the snow or water next time,, I dont see what all the fuss is about really,

Well competing yes, but for having fun no. The only difference is that if I get hurt I loose job days and that costs me. Nothing more.
Other than that it's all about how much time you put into it and what your goals are. What makes you smile.
Age won't stop you from climbing, scuba diving, sky-diving, snowboarding, you name it. Sure, I'll never do a jump like S.White, but who cares? It's not about what you can't do, it's about how you allow yourself to have fun and how much you accept as a limit, that being danger, pain or cost (in gear)...Frankly I am not pushing it more than that because I do other sports too and getting hurt would mean not climbing for example, or burning PTO days that I need for holyday..
You sound a bit like my wife (no offense) that was SO surpriesd when instead of a watch I bought myself a longboard " are you going to fit? they are all 1/3 your age"
Fit? I don't care about fitting, I don't have to. that is one advantage of getting out of the age braket typical of a sport...you don't give a rat's ass if you fit or no, you are just selfishly having a hell of a good time. The hell with the current "show off your underwear" style or whatever else one is supposed to look like..I don't have to!
The age might be different..but the stoke is the same man...I'm telling you, you get older, but inside you nothing changes.
