How to Be a Pretty Skater Girl

How can to get into the action, be in style, look original and skate like a pro. Well, here is your skating guide to looking pretty while carving up the streets.

1. Purchase a board! Save up the money and go to your local skate shop and purchase a complete setup [deck, trucks, wheels]. Ask them if they can put it together or learn how to do it yourself. Also, have them go over the parts of the board with you.
2. Learn how to skate. Practice the basics of skating. You can watch skate How-To's on Youtube, but the best way to learn is to actually go outside and start.
3. Don't be afraid to fall! Fear is your worst enemy when learning how to skateboard. Make sure to wear the right gear when skating and don't rush into learning complicated tricks until you have mastered going and stopping, pedaling, carving/turning, kickturns, and the ollie.
4. Wear skate brands from skate stores like Zumiez. Or, go online and shop. Examples of skate brands are: eS, Chocolate, Girl, Enjoi, and Volcom.
5. Do NOT shop at places like Hot Topic for your skate apparel. The only things you'd want from there if you're committed to looking cool would be band t-shirts, hoodies, and piercings.
6. Don't wear too much makeup! Dark eyeliner and eyeshadow will make you look like a goth. Think natural! Take a look at what the current female skaters, snowboarders, and surfers are wearing on their faces and you will see that they go bare most of the time. You want to look good while skating, but you don't want to look too made-up. Girls who do their makeup like Avril Lavigne are not skaters
7. Don't dress emo unless you can coordinate it with the skater girl look and not look like a poser. Chances are, you will have a lot of trouble doing that anyways.
8. Get sponsored by skate brands if you're good enough.
9. There are several types of skaters: Freestylists, who basically make up their own cool tricks, street skaters, who are all about jumps and grinds, vert skaters who do flips, ramps, and are usually the people you see on TV, and cruisers, who are a sort of relative of skaters, who are mainly about some ramps, stance, and lots of speed. Cruisers are usually mistaken for posers.

Tips

* Dress in style but not as a poser: just about the worst thing you could do.
* Always have color.
* Be original and fun.
* Some recommended brands (for Decks) are: Element, FLIP, Zero, Anti-Hero, Girl, THINK, Chocolate, and Enjoi.
* Don't listen to Avril Lavigne and call yourself a skater! She is not a 'skater girl' she is a 'sk8r' which is a poser!
* By all means go to Camp Woodward at least once!
* Be nice, but be sure to have some comebacks stored for the brat who asks you why you don't wear Ambercrombie.

* I'm happy to say that it is highly unlikely that you will lose your friends. You will most likely gain new ones as well.
* Don't say you can skate unless you really can.

* Know the difference between emo, punk, grunge, and skater, for these all are usually mistaken for one another.
* When practicing skateboarding, always wear a helmet. Plaster it with stickers so it looks cool if you want, but make sure you wear it.

I am all for supporting girls at what they do instead of demeaning them, but why is this here even out there.girls that get into longboarding instead of sk8ing or whatever they call it will usually have their own style anyways. I guess it is fun to see how the world thinks people should be.

Most girls I've known that wear that crap aren't fit to skate, and are generally stuck up ritzy snobs.
