Re: Thrasher - July
IDK about slalom/DH but some sliding shots would probably work in thrasher.
BTW who else thinks sliding is a great bridge for "kickflippers/Shortboarders" to get interested in other disciplines. maybe we would see more people like tommy g

Slalom?? I could see maybe downhill, but only the downhill slide like the Bones Brigade did in the 80's. Not a bunch of guys in leathers and space helmets...

Re: Thrasher - July
I respectfully disagree Mile High Mark...
it wouldn't kill any skate magazine to run even a teeny tiny photo of what else is happening in skateboarding.
I know most of their audience only does street, but if they were to expose more of their readers as to what else is out there...well, who knows what could happen
diversity is key...but then again, I've argued this for years

Quite a few... I'd prefer to be known as a longboarder.
In my defense I will say that I started out with a good attitude towards the full gamut of riding styles. Then I slowly but surely lost more and more respect for 'kickflippers'. I know that's a gross generalization, but it's the truth. I used to f#####g hate them, I've fought my way back to somewhere in the middle, now I just dislike them till they prove themselves one way or the other.

calling them "kickflippers" is setting up a straw man of skateboarding. it isn't fair and there is a lot more going on in skateboarding than kickflips. it takes a lot more skill in my opinon to do kickflips, ollies, gaps/transitions/bowls, and handrails than carveing down a hill.
we all ride some device with trucks, wheels, holy #### we use the same nuts and bolts. people sure do like specilization though, and putting people into groups, and hating on people just because they are different. well i say #### that, and go skate on whatever you have fun with.

Re: Thrasher - July
4 urethane wheels, 2 aluminum trucks and a board...it's a skateboard regardless of what it looks like...we had a guy watch us dodging cones the other night...on my way home he asked me what we we doing, I said skateboarding...he'd never seen slalom skateboarding before. It's all skateboarding but I doubt that we will ever see anything in Thrasher (ok maybe some gnar downhill but only in black leather)...never in TWS unless there is ad money involved and then buried in the back under a hair gel ad

"THEY"? Your not usually one to generalize so hard on these forums. Your ignorance sucks considering the level of intelligence that you usually exhibit..

Re: Thrasher - July
I quite clearly stated that it's not the opinion I started out with 10 years ago.
It's an opinion that has steadily grown through repeated run-ins with f##kh###s who also happen to be riding 'typical skateboards'. I'm not happy to draw a separating line, but like it or not it's there. It's a big gray line, and there's plenty of skaters who can live happily migrating between the two worlds, more power to them.
saying that there's less skill involved in carving is so... well let's put it this way.
Yes, it's easier to successfully carve down a hill than it is to - boardslide a handrail for example.
But, it's also possible to carve a hill in ways that take years to learn, and in ways that not everyone will be physically capable of achieving.
think of it as the difference between your first stationary ollie and doing it down 12 stairs.

Reason: it's 2 am, I'm a bit more pissed off than I normally would be...

Re: Thrasher - July
I wouldn't want to be classified as a just a longboarder. I skate street decks, but more of the old school styles as I'm not comfortable on popsicle sticks. Nothing wrong with them, just not my thing. I see the "seperating line" being more by age. Whenever I see a group of people skating one spot, they look very young, children even. Our group in which people skate all styles the age range is vast. From children to moms and dads. I call them all "skateboarders" and I would refer to someone kickflipping as street skating. So I think that might be where SteveC is coming from, more of an age gap, which is normal.

Re: Thrasher - July
I think there's a demographic thing going on, there's a fair few bogan skaters where I live.
(bogan is... I guess aus for white trash)
I'm utterly certain that if I didn't get dissed for it i wouldn't hate back.
It's funny though I think that it actually happens less as I've gotten older.
Though the places i skate have changed too. shrug.
Sorry for the rant guys, I know it's not a good attitude, so I usually suppress it.

I've not been dissed as being anything but old and that I can except...most of the time...I skate round wall well enough that the younger skaters don't bother me and my lines are fast enough that tend to own sections of the park when I skate (I'm sure +200lbs in full pads helps as well) plus I (and 2 other cone dodgers) helped build the new sections of the park so my service to the skate community is respected. The fact that I enjoy other flavors of skateboarding is just accepted. When I go to parks other than my home I usually only take my park board so my other skating fetishes really never come up
