The purpose of the BetaBoard Contest is to test, refine and ultimately create a vastly different type of deck

Inventor Ted Hunter has created yet another innovation in building a skateboard deck called “Continuous Layer” (CL for short). Roarockit is reaching out to riders of varied riding styles to ride, assess and then perfect this technology.

Five initial contest winners will become the riders and testers of a prototype deck built for their specific skateboard discipline. A final random draw will award one of the testers with a custom Carbon-Gold
CL deck!

So what does the CL deck have that others don’t?

Strength and lightness, using a combination of maple veneer and carbon fiber for a powerfully effective skateboard for all disciplines such as pool, drop, street, slider and slalom boards etc.

How it Works:

Five contest winners will be each sent a prototype CL board that they will be asked to test in their specific discipline.

To enter, post 3 - 4 paragraphs describing the reason why you want be a CL board tester. Along with the essay, a maximum 90-second video must be included to show your skill level in your discipline to determine which style of board you want to test. (video must be posted from Google Video)

The 5 winners will be selected from the postings by a panel of judges from CW, Silverfish, Roarockit, plus an unbiased person.

Each tester will receive a custom Roarockit CL deck built for their particular discipline to ride, test, and to keep.

Decks are to be ridden and tested over a one-month period, using your own hardware. After which, each tester will submit their assessment in 3 or more paragraphs with pics, on the CW forum.

A random draw will award one of the 5 testers with a Carbon-Gold CL deck built to incorporate the tester’s refinements!

Why are we doing this?

By opening this contest to you, the world’s community of riders, it does not limit testing and involvement to any internal, geographic, or professional status.

Roarockit’s interest is to take ownership of a new method of making a laminated skateboard deck and to share this with the skateboard community.

And finally, to create an article in CW Magazine with interesting and inspiring reading about something new in the skateboard world. The article would provide insights into the design, building, testing and refining of a new technology and it’s resultant product, (good or bad!) by involving the builders, testers and critics from a diverse group of skateboard riders.

Question, are your deck designs for competition? I ask for all of the hard carvers and crusiers out here. Guys that dont compete and ride to carve the pave.

My hopes is that all levels of riders enter this contest. All entries from any disipline, any age or riding level will seriously be looked at.

If I were to upload a video to determine my longboarding discipline/skill level, would it have to be strictly one discipline(downhill, carving, slalom, etc.)? Because I might film a little this weekend and I was wondering if I could put a little bit of downhill/carving/crosstepping all together.

lame, just tell us more about the boards now, and hook up some pics. this is not a good way to get feedback on your boards. this might be a good way to advertise them, but call it what it is.

I'm interested in "competing". I'm all for progression in the skate world, although this might not be the best way to go about it... I'll submit something soon.

Also it might not be a good idea to get 5 differnt people who dont talk to each other to create one deck...
A LOT of protypes and failed attempts have to be made before doing something good...
I'm not sure that you, deciding what to pick from the advices is good to make one board.
Also we would have to create the board from the very beginning and not just get a "beta" version of something that you had in mind.

So well, Im pretty damn sure it's not a very good idea to do it that way... but well, up to you

Ok I will try to answer some of your questions.

I think it would be best if people picked one discipline. Pick the one you think you are best at.

My intention is to have some fun with this and hope you can too.

It's going to be the same technology applied to five different boards, not just one. Ahhhh! I have to make five different boards!

Seeing as I got my first board pressing it using the toothless method with some Nice Roarockit Maple veneers, I will be entering this contest. I think its a very cool idea, though I would like to hear more about the CL Tech, if possible that is.
