Default "Roots of Downhill" in CW

"The Roots of Downhill" by David Dallon

anyone checked out that article in CW ?

    Dig the vintage pics....
    Did David supplied the photo?
    is there more ?

I really want to see vintage racing footage, especially from the 80's...
all I have seen is Downhill Motion and Catalina Classic...

I haven't read the article but I thought the roots of downhill were pretty obvious?

"Golly, Beaver, that's a big hill. I'll bet I can get to the bottom before you!"

"Jeepers, Whitey, you're crazy. My steel wheels will go like 23 Skidoo compared to your wheels."

"I'll bet you my Pee Wee Reese rookie card I can go faster!"

"Ok, Whitey. I'll put up my Captain Video decoder ring. But we need to get Wally or Lumpy to come watch so we know won."

And THAT is how downhill was born.

I can't bring myself to subscribe a magazine with more pictures of Fadell and Fatboy than there are of half naked women.

(Seriously, it's just one of those things I haven't gotten around to like paying my taxes or rotating my tires.)

    Mike,

I just looked at that Turnit website. Kind of cool.

Only one thing: the SPREADS ARE ALL BACKWARDS.

    It's like pages 84-83, 86-85, 88-87, and so on.

Was a little confusing at first but eventually I figured out what was going on.

34 mph on newly paved Rt. 422 near Valley Forge, PA, fall of 1964 as measured on a Pontiac Catalina speedometer. Lacrosse helmet and pads. No pics, no vid, no proof - believe it.

There is a GREAT HILL at Road Atlanta almost identical to the one at Laguna Seca. One of these days when the stars and the moon align I'm going to get over there and talk to the management.

I just looked. That hill is pictured on the Road Atlanta Wiki entry:

No, loose bearing composite roller rink wheels. Extremely difficult to keep lubricated for any distance and they were also prone to disintegration at speed.

We used to run it at night. I've got to think that spot must easily be an 50mph run on more modern equipment (urethane wheels and 608 bearings.)
