if you were a lawyer, who would you sue in the skateboard industry and why?
I think I'd sue E basil and Malakai for creating such an incredibly good time waster!

In industry you can't let employees, say - operate a lathe without eye protection.
And yet you can photograph a kid dropping 14 stairs without a helmet?

first i would sue kryptonics for making the "skateboarder in a box" thing. i would also sue them in order to force them to remake those wheels everyone likes.
then i would sue loaded for making $400 longboards that i cant afford.

First and foremost, I would sue all those responsible for the closing of my favorite skateparks back in the '70's.
Next, I would sue the innovator/inventor of carbon fiber indirectly responsible for the creation of numerous speedboards I will never be able to afford, but continue to lose sleep over!
Lastly, all the "crack dealers" for my addiction...you know who you are...MHS, DBS, LBL and the like!

Just to be argumentative...
What if the kid's job is seen not as "drop 14 stairs" but as "create an image of somebody doing something reckless and dangerous".
To put it another way, the work that the lathe operator does will be the same regardless of whether they wear eye protection. The work of the kid will be qualitatively different if they wear a helmet.
Also, your argument presupposes that helmets are effective safety devices. That's not so clear-cut.

why will the work be different? wearing a helmet is just a good way too actually get through puberty, the sooner kids learn that, the better! if the guys they respect wear helmets, they are more likely too. theres this stupid poser attitude amongst alot of skaters at the mo, its ridiculous.
i have no-one to sue, i just thought the last post was silly!
Ride for the stoke, not for everyone else.

heh, just to keep this going, hell I can't talk there's a photo of me at randal.com without a helmet on... ahem...
The thing is that if the entire industry promoted helmet use it would stop being an image issue and it would level the playing field.
I'm certain there's a bunch of people that would wail at the idea, and maybe rightly so it might actually effect sales as most of the money comes from males whose brains haven't figured out that they're mortal yet.
I think it can be easily argued that helmets are effective. Not 100% of course, but it's exceedingly provable that sudden deceleration damages brains, and that a helmet can spread that deceleration over a longer time period. Effectively reducing the amount of energy the brain endures.
