I'm heading to San Diego from Virginia next month for a surprise wedding. I'm bringing my new lil Ben Wei 24 in my suitcase - mostly to hide it from my wife until it's too late and we're there.

I use one of the decent hardware bags. Never been charged extra on many many flights. Someone even asked me if it was golf clubs! I must look more respectable than I thought....
If you can't put the setup in a bag, take the trucks and wheels off, put THEM in a bag and carry the deck on with you.

I traveled from San Diego to Maryland with 2 carry ons, 1 being my backpack and the other being my board. No hassle what so ever.

Re: travelling this summer with your skate? any issues??? tips???
Where did you put the board while flying? Overhead?
-
Re: travelling this summer with your skate? any issues??? tips???
1-2 boards - carry on. If they won't let you do a gate check. It's free. Might want to use a bag.
>2 you'll probably be better off checking. May or may not want to un-mount them.

i do the same thing, if you are flying try and get the boarding pass online before you go to the airport, this avoids going to the front desk and them charging/hassling you about the board. once you walk up to security with your boarding pass and skateboard they will think it was ok'd by the airline, the flight attendants dont ask any questions once its past security.
ive flown with evos before, with no problem

Have any of you skated IN an airport? There's some long stretches of smooth floor and no one around, but I figure there's tons of cameras and itchy guards who would bust you. I went to pick up some pals a couple months ago and was really wanting my board for the long walk from the parking lot..

I wanted to skate so bad while waiting for my plane but my girlfriend told me not to. As far as where to put it, I placed my board in the overhead, wheels up and my bag on top of it. Just be careful taking it out because items may shift during flight.

Re: travelling this summer with your skate? any issues??? tips???
I bring a board wherever I travel. Too much chance of remorse if I see the perfect hill unprepared. I bought a small snowboard bag off season, and it works great. They sell these things for almost nothing at the end of the season sales (like now). If anyone needs a board bag, these are a good cheap way to go.

i strapped my deck to my skate backpack. i used a 36inch with in heats, so it wasnt too big. it was still smaller that my guitar case. the gave me no problem, except for once. then i just took the board of, and red tag checked my backpack. i travel from abilene Tx, to Dallas on a frog hopper, then from dallas to San Francisco.

yep, Detroit airport through the trippy tunnel that goes under the runway. I used the mini, which I put in my carry on bag. I had my speedboard in checked baggage and just wrapped two hoodies on each end of the board for some slight protection.
I am going to try the carry on method next time I fly with my speedboard.
didn't get hassled by security and I know I flew by a lot of airport employees.

So great, both of you. That's it, I'm skating the Atlanta airport, mini in the carry-on method. I'll have a three-year-old and a baby with me so maybe the cops will take pity on me if I get busted.
I plan to travel with a t-shirt that says "SORRY I'M FLYING WITH A BABY."

Does anyone have any idea if a 45 in. deck with S10's will fit in the over head of 737?
Trucks are about 12 in. wide, can't remember how wide the over heads are.
