Once upon a time, I decided I had ninja-like control and I was cool enough to bomb on Revenges.. I'm not. I fought off the wobbles twice, and then, just at the bottom of the steep section, they hit for the third time, bigger & harder. I KNEW I was gonna go down that time (which probably helped make sure I did), but I kept trying to fight them off. I rode out several more oscillations, giving me extended time to think about my impending doom. Of course, my board finally made a 90deg turn out from under me and I did the Superman slide. Somewhere during the slide, my jacket pulled up from my pants, and I'll carry marks on my hip for the rest of my life from that one.
That has got to be the second worst feeling on earth.. that brief time when the Oh SH!T light is on.. you know the crash is coming, you know it's gonna be bad.. but you haven't hit the pavement yet.
Sunday I was bombing this hill that I had taken several times successfully. Unfortunately, Sunday was just a reallyy off day for me all around.
So I go to take this corner down a side road. It has a manhole cover smack in the middle so you have to go either on inside or try to stick it with the straw and leaves on the outside (do-able).
I go to take the inside when suddenly, for whatever inexplicable reason my ankle pops. My first thought is "Oh ----, my ankle is breaking" so I practically throw myself off when I hit the straw on the outside lane to avoid placing more pressure on it.
Long story short, I'm nursing a sprained ankle and some nasty road rash on my stomach.
Ok so when my friend first started longboarding we went down this hill that I guess he wasnt ready for and he gets speed wobbles and him being new and all he doesnt ride out the wobbles. So Im watching next to him and see him go to the side of the road then I was like oh #### he's gonna grab the guard rail, and he does and his board goes out from under him he falls and the board goes into a drainage ditch. Luckily he and the board only got minor scratches Nd he wasnt turned off of longboarding.
so im on one if our local hills with some buddies, and i draft my one friend into a left hairpin corner. this is a fast road, and i was doing at least 75 into this corner (basing that off of numerous tail car clockings from previous runs over the year) and as i went to corner, i went to far to the inside.
as i come around the apex, there is a white truck coming right at me, less than 10 feet away. i swerve right and superman off my board, slide belly first across two lanes, into a ditch, and then into the forest down hill. somehow i did a 180 so i went feet first into the forest and i missed all the rocks and trees.
pretty much stared death in the face on that one.
Yeah I have 75mph hairpin cornering incidents all the time.
At 3:35 adam eats it nice and good, and then I fall due to object fixation and rocks that were spilled into the road. Yup, head over heals at aboot 35-40.
Just wait until you guys see the boom cam footy of me avoiding a brand new merc that happened to be in a tight 180 switchback with 5 riders flying behind me....
