Well, an SD card s an SD card... It doesnt really get outdated if you take a big one...
And ofr 40$ the financial "risk" is limited lol

I think he meant SD as in Standard Definition, not an SD memory card.

    Back again.

I just pulled up the specs on my digital camera, (small point and shoot sony) and it turns out the video resolution on it is 640 x 480 (30 fps). And this turns out to be higher than the GoPro standard (512x384 (30 fps)).

I am not really at all happy with the video that the Sony shoots, bit grainy. Does this mean that the standard gopro will have worse quality video?

I want to get the HD but the pc issue is stopping that for now.

Has anyone got their Gopro HD yet?

AND you have a laptop (90% of chances for it to have a 5400rpm harddrive...)
So yes I would say.... forget about it.

You might not be able to even WATCH what you've recorded (most computers that are not "geek owned" and older than 2 years old lag when whatching 720p divx ), let alone edit it...
What are you talking about? My laptop is over 4 years old,NOT CORE 2 DUO like his, it handles HD video just fine and I edit .mov non standard (non .mts non avchdlite files) in premiere pro 3.0 without issue.

Raid 0 is fine and dandy but ultimately the CPU is the limiting factor in frame processing...(that rendering time is your CPU rendering those frames...the HD is not usually maxed out at that point)
And todays laptops come with 7200rpm (mine is 5400!)

Go add a couple layers of effect on your 1080p raw footage you try to edit and try to REALLY edit footage with the music beat and you will NOT be able to EDIT a video.
Now if you put shots together of one run, render it and put it on youtube right away, it can be fine, eventhough most laptops my friends have wont even read 1080p, this being due to how they take care of their windows .
I'm not at my first video with REAL editing so I kind of know what I'm talking about

EDIT: tihs is the last one I did...
It was done on a Athlon 64 X2 4200+ with a 7200rpm 320gigs HD... Guess what... It's a miracle I could edit it correctly and it was a mess... I CANNOT edit 1080p videos that way on this computer. This was only filmed on 720p @30fps.

in short.. if u wanna do any real editing for 780p/1080p u need a computer with the right hardware capable of handling that much processing power.

Which SD memory card capacity are you guys planning to have in your GoPro HD cams?
Will it work good with a 4GB or 8GB memory card?

It depends on the way the camera encodes the video...
To give you some idea with 8gigs, I get 1h40mins of video at 720p with my camera...
If we consider that 1080p takes twice or 2.5 times more space, you'll probably get around 40 minutes of rushs with an 8gigs SD card... Now it's only speculation

    EDIT: There you go

    Storage
Memory: SD card, up to 32GB capacity (SDHC)
Average recording times (using 32GB SD card):
    1080p (30 fps): 4h 21m
    960p (30 fps): 5h 26m
    720p (60 fps): 4h 21
    720p (30 fps): 8h 09m
    WVGA (60 fps): 8h 09m

So about 1h05 minutes with 8gigs and 32minutes with 4gigs
