    Default GoPro HD

I'm not sure if this is the right section to post it in, but has anyone got hold of the GoPro HD? Is out official out yet in the states?

I'm from Australia but I've got a friend in the states and might need him to pick one up for our little trip. He's in L.A., so if anyone knows where he can get it there that would be awesome.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I've used one. Footage is very impressive. Might have an edit up in a couple weeks or so.

Email Gopro, ask them if they have any distributors in the LA area.
They'll have a better idea than we will

What makes the gopro so much better than a vholdr?
It just seems like vhold has been offering hd and sd shooting on 1 camera for a while now, and now that the gopro comes out everybody needs one

Huh, that's interesting. I just checked out the site, the camera, and some examples of their video, and it seems to be a) equally high quality and b) cheaper.

I'll definitely be looking into this; thanks, bro.

from the site i ordered mine from:

If you've received this email you have a pre-order for a GoPro HD HERO with us. Gopro has finally communicated a firm date that they will be shipping the cameras to us. They will ship the Helmet HEROs to us this Friday, and we should receive them towards the end of next week. We should be in a position to ship them late next week. We realize this is later than many of you were anticipating (including us) and we apologize about that.

GorPro has a much wider lens angle, somewhere around 130* I think, where as the vholdr is only 90. And, at least from what I can tell from pictures, the GoPro looks like it'd do better than the vholdr in a crash.

the GoPro comes with a housing case thats waterproof and can take a crash very well. it also comes a lot of mounting options standard and alternative mounts can be purchased for pretty cheap. the wider lens angle is also very nice esp for sports as it allows for a better first person view. i think overall the reason GoPro is more talked about and in demand is because of the value it provides + amazing video quality.

I plan on ordering one of these, but I heard from a completely unreliable source that I would need a new PC to be able to edit the footage.

Is there any truth to this? I have a fairly fast laptop, will the HD footage be too much to handle?

    very probably yes...
HD videos requires fast hard drive (Raid 0 is a good solution) and high processing capacities...
AND you have a laptop (90% of chances for it to have a 5400rpm harddrive...)
So yes I would say.... forget about it.

You might not be able to even WATCH what you've recorded (most computers that are not "geek owned" and older than 2 years old lag when whatching 720p divx ), let alone edit it...
