Re: How to Clean Your Biltins
what happens when the acetone leaks out and squirts in your eye? is there any easy way to sort of seal it? not trying to be a buzz kill here but it seems my eyes attract whatever substance is the most painful (ex: acne wash, toothpaste, bugspray, grease off the frying pan etc etc...).

Wear Safety goggles? If you properly seal your bearing cleaner and tighten the lid down you should be fine.

Re: How to Clean Your Biltins
Use breaklean... THE END! then lube with Mobil 1... it's in your dads cabinet in the garage
Acetone only breaks down the oils not any other debris or residues... and it barely does a good job of that...
Breaklean has Heptane,Toluene, acetone, and other wonderful carcinogens... it's like the Fantastic four super cleaner!

Re: How to Clean Your Biltins
i've been throwing mine in a bottle with cleaning stuff, cap it, and shake it like crazy, but all loose-like.
does having the bolt through the middle holding them all together help in some way? i thought letting the bearings bang against each other loosely might help knock all the crud out of them.
I dig the vid, nicely done!!

It allows you to have each bearing evenly spaced to allow a proper rinsing/cleaning of the bearings in the bottle. I have found using the bolt method very useful, and would highly suggest it.
You can also grab an ultrasonic cleaner and take more of a technological approach.

thanks, that makes sense. i can also see how keeping the cleaning solution at the bottom of the bottle makes the rinsing process easier...pull out one set of bearings, pop in another, without having to pull them out one by one.
also better for recycling the same cleaning stuff, at least until it gets inefficiently gunky.
i know that there are some good chemical solutions but I've been using Simple Green and it seems to work pretty well. there might be some soap-residue issues but i figure oiling and spinning (riding) and later re-oiling the wheels should blast out the rest.

Is where the bolt goes that you foresee leaking?
For the bearing cleaner I made I dabbed some shoe goo under the head of the bolt to seal it on the bottle lid.

Sealing the hole in in the cap around the bolt....to eliminate any spillage or mess that may occur.
Like mentioned above, you can take a different route and use shoe goo.
