man, Yvonne is so freaking talented. I was there to see his backflip attempt at the paris world cup 04 but watching that vid gave me chills dude. He has got to be one of the most fearless skaters out there. Why is this **** not on realtv or something. That last jump that he nails and slides out of is SOOO nice. Loose the bladers and that is some seriously sick footage.

The sage, Longboard Buddha once said, "A tree spends 100% of its lifetime in a static environment and only after its reincarnation as a deck is it allowed to move at fast speeds...
when allowed, the wood will give thankless service if
    allowed to flow."

I still skate barefoot when its warm outside. I actually ride all over campus barefoot, but never when im bombing hills, just when im cruising and carving down small hills...plus, when its warm outside, I only wear sandals, and you cant skate in sandals, so on my way to class I just put them in my hand and skate barefoot...I get tons of looks from people, and someone even met me once and said, "oh your that guy who skates everywhere barefoot."

Theres nothing like doin some soulfull carving on your cruiser and being able to feel the deck under your feet...

Skyhooks make it too easy, same thing with carveboards. You could compare it to tow-in surfing (assuming there are other surfers on this forum). Its practical for waves that are too big to paddle into (huge jaws, teahupoo, france, mavericks, etc). But when you use that technology to get you into waves that can be paddled into just for the thrill of doing a 540 triple backflip out the back, then you defeat the purpose, and it is no longer surfing. Same thing goes with skating. Skyhooks are (to me) the same thing as tow-in surfing on small waves that you could paddle into...its not skateboarding...its flying, flipping, and a great way to ruin a good board (when you wipe out or do flips into water.... ...which is cool to watch, im not gonna lie)...

    my 2 cents...

but since longboarding is in its infancey... unlike surfing there is still giant progress's with things like shapes and trucks. wheels etc... and maby skyhooks are just another branch of longboarding with links taken from snowboarding? there already used for banked slalom...

For banked slalom and other extreme instances I can see how you would need skyhooks...but for doing a backflip? No, I dont think so. Thats not skateboarding.

The huge issue with tow-in surfing is "tow-ats", where surfers are towed at a wave (not into...but directly towards it) so they can fly off the face of the wave and do ridiculous tricks that are only possible with the help of a jet ski and tow straps. This is fun to watch, but it ruins the lineup. When tons of skis are buzzing around trying to compete for waves, the real surfers have to put up with the noise, wake, and fumes just to get a few waves.

I dont mind watching guys get towed into huge teahupoo...that IS surfing. But when you are flipping 3 times out the back of a wave and strapped to your board, then its no longer surfing.

http://www.tim-mckenna.com/image/new...c6623_xxxl.jpg <---this is how tow straps should be used

Now I know that tow-in surfing is not the same as skateboarding, and yes I can see how skyhooks are rooted in snowboarding, but when skyhooks are used for doing ridiculous stunts, I dont call that skateboarding.

    I guess im a traditionalist...

you do something half that cool and then you can say whats skateboarding and whats not. Lame attack, you cant do that, so give some respect.

First off, this was not an attack. So dont look at it in that way.

Second off, I have every right to analyze someone's style of riding and state if I like it or not. Thats my personal opinion. You are entitled to yours as well.

I think its cool, but I dont think its true skateboarding. Its innovative, but I dont think its practical...see where I am going?

    PS - lame attack...

Yvon is one of my best freinds, he comes 5 times a year just to hang around the house or to ride during the summer, so i had many oppotunity to bash him (in a friendly way) about his Sky Hooks...

    ..you know what he says?

Nothing. Cause the guy doesnt give a ****. He knows he is the only guy that can achieve this trick on this planet (yet) and anyway, he has the same smile on his face each time he trys it. So who care if its traditional or not?

I agree that Sky Hooks in a slide contest is shitty, but with a backflip, just tell me how the **** the board is suppose to be stayin under your feet after half the first backspin???

This is EXTREME longboarding. It is not skateboarding or surfing. It is not typical longboarding either...so, its somethin else!

Just enjoy, thats all that matter.

Yvon is gonna be doin it (maybe, we still talk about it with the organisator) next year at the MONTREAL TOP CHALLENGE.

Enjoy Yvon's DOUBLE BACKFLIP!!! Yeas yeas, double comin up...

I myself, am not a "traditionalist". So im am all for Skyhooked Xtreme longboarding.

Its not like the guy is using hooks/straps to make something easyer, say like someone using them for park to make things stupid easy, and looking like a poser.
The guy's using them to push a boundary.

    Rock on Yvon

dude who the hell made you the friggin dictator as to what is skateboarding or not. Just becuase people want to do some back flips with there longboards doesn't mean they aren't skaters too. When was the last time you did a backflip without skyhooks. Have you ever even used them??? cuz your thrashin their name like you have. I have a pretty good notion that you haven't since it is "not skateboarding". quit downing other peoples fun just becuase you think there is some sort of soul in skating barefoot and everything else is wack. IT IS skateboarding from the simple fact that they ARE on a skateboard. Maybe you should stick to water and keep the stupid "skateboarding without soul is not skateboarding at all" mentality between you and your super cool surfer friends
