I don't have a car so I skate mostly everywhere to, even though the only place I really go is my friends house sometimes.

Yeah, I avoid using motorvehicles, when possible.

On the topic of saving the planet, oil, global warming, etc...,
When the oil does run out, where will we be getting our wheels from?

The highest estimate of oil left is approximately 1.65 trillion barrels of oil.
The world consumes approximately 82.25 million barrels per day, using that, we have about 55 years maximum. Probably less considering that is the highest estimate of oil left, and we just keep increasing the amount used, especially in developing nations like China, which has been increasing usage by about 7.5% each year. And most oil wells are abandoned when 50-60% of the oil is depleted, because it becomes too difficult to extract the rest.

And even if we don't run out, it will get to the point that oil is so ridiculously expensive that very few will be able to afford it.

Hey Herb, i mean, thats cute and all what your saying, but honestly, in 55 years, who the hell will even care? Most of the people on this board will be dead by then, and the ones left will soon be dead, so what does it matter to us?

    haha thats pretty grim ^^^^^

You have to think of it that its not like oil will be abundant and then just all of the suddenly NOT exist at midnight on new years' eve 2062, 55 years from now(a very generous estimate, btw) though- it will be a gradual and painfull process. Prices will soar as the wells start to deplete and social and economic crisis will soon follow - there will be huge pushes for a better energy source and the powers that be(usually are in the pockets of oil companies so their making millions off it being expensive as ####) will drag ass and push back until they've made all the money to be had from the whole ####ed up situation. Hell, maybe even a war will be fought over it, probably a big one.

I personally think global warming is 60% a farce thats being used like a hand in cards for certain people to gain an edge in politics - but theres no doubt we're shitting on our planet and there will be consiquences. We should turn more green as a society to lead by example, but seriously we're so far gone that its hard to every imagine us as a race putting aside economic growth and being able to microwave pizzas for the earth's sake.

more or less, humanitys' greed is going to be our undoing in the end - unless we all go back to hunter/gatherers and judge our worth on the quality of our love and relationships - and only take what we abesolutely need from the earth instead of finding new ways to rape it for things we want - i dont see an out here.

its a romantic notion to skate instead of drive where you can though. I live in an area where you have to basically drive to do anything though. There are tons of hills and everything is atleast a 5 minute drive. I think a lot of people in the suburbs can relate to that.

We will all probably be too old to skate anyway when they don't have any oil left to make urethane.
