Geolman you are completely over looking the fact that the jeep illegally passed him and crossed a double line to get in front of him. I would think if some one cuts you off like that the rule stands a little bit different regarding who's at fault.

• illegally passed him
• crossed a double yellow line
• intentionally stopped in front of him
• gestured and drove away after his actions caused him to crash (if he impacted the car, that's hit and run, no matter what)

I wouldn't go to the cops...

I would definitely take my chances, and take this to the cops.

but if the $400 is solid, then take the money and run. that would piss off the cops if you're making money and filing charges. I think it's pretty messed up that Break.com rewards #### like this, I just hope it doesn't encourage more of it.

I've been out of the longboarding scene for a while now but that just pissed me off. He's man enough to cut kids off on a street but not enough to stop a car and face them in person.

This guy was a major douche. I would look in to this case which occurred in Brentwood, CA recently involving a road rage incident very similar to this which caused two bicyclists to crash in to the back of a vehicle... one going through the rear windshield.

Not only is "perception is reality" true, but "perception" depends on who the perceiver is.

Skateboarding has had a long history with the cops, and none of it favorable...

Of course we will be sympathetic. It was a stupid A-hole move, no doubt.

My point is - what is the COP going to think?

If any argument can be made - which side do you think the cop is going to argue? Crossing the double yellow line to get around a non-motorist - haven't you done that to get around a bicyclist, because it would be safer than passing him without crossing the double yellow line?

There's always two ways to look at something.
From that cop's perception, you might as well be a homosexual ex-con member of the Ku-Klux-Klan approaching him to complain about how you were treated on the road on your skateboard...

The double lane passing doesn't matter..... whether or not skateboarding is allowed does not matter... what matters is that the driver attempted to injure - if you can argue that succesfully.

IF one of your friends was injured by crashing into the vehicle, then he should press charges if his lawyer thinks he can argue the driver showed you ill will.

Whether or not the primary cause of a crash is the fact that the person in the rear hits the person in the front doesn't matter. ANY time you rear end someone you are the listed as the primary casue of the crash. But that doesn't mean that other factors, such as the driver slamming his brakes for no apparent reason, would not make him RESPONSIBLE (how do you think they get the guys who defraud insurance with these tactics?). It doesn't matter that the skateboarder can't stop and is the primary cause of the rear end crash, assuming one of the guys hit the car (I couldn't see in the video). The tough part is that you have to prove his malicious intent, and that there was no reasonable cause for him to slam on his brakes.

It doesn't matter what a cop thinks, because no city government is going to go after this guy for you when all one can clearly see from the video evidence is a couple of traffic violations - none of which are serious unless they lead to and are part of a collison of some sort. What matters is whether or not the car can be held responsible for any injuries which you may have sustained.

If nobody got injured, be happy! You got quite an adrenaline rush and story to tell. Wait several months until nobody remembers this, then cut the bastard's brake lines so he can see what it feels like......
