Re: Sector 9 "9 Star" Preview (Pics etc...)
yea, there is someting fishy about that new 9 star. I have the Kommi and the sector 9 site says it is 9 inches wide. However, the one I have and all the ones I have seen in the store are 10.25 inches wide. It has deep concave and flush mount drop through. (the kind you can grip tape right over and no one will know it's a drop through looking from the top) It's the best handling downhill board I own. So, with that in mind, here is what I don't understand about the 9 star. It lists on the sector nine site as 9.5 and yet it looks a lot skinnier than the kommi that thay list at 9.0 (again mine is actually 10.25) and there is a picture on the sector 9 site that makes it look like they wedged the nose like a land yachtz drop wedge. (in the flash animation on the home page #5 in the top right menu) So, I am not sure if some of the pictures out there are an early prototype or I am just missing something. But, for me the Kommi works great, I just change one or both baseplates to 42 degree if I want to tame the insane turnability.

Re: Sector 9 "9 Star" Preview (Pics etc...)
S9 is run by a bunch of MORONS. I tried to get them to correct their initial 9.5" reference on their site/marketing (I got a 9" wide one and so did everyone else) and they fed me crap about me not taking the concave into account blablabla.
Anyways, its finally fixed on the site
Other s9 updates: The S9 Sunset is discontinued because of shitty QC/ constant issues people have with the deck
The S9 "surgeon slide gloves" cost $70 on the s9 site. I feel sorry for you if you buy them!

@jake: don't try it. i suggest against that idea.
and that's why i like my 9star prototype so much better: nice flex, nearly 10" wide, 42" long, and too lazy to measure the wb.

while the gloves look REALLY FUCKING NICE I think $70 is a tad steep. They should stop stamping their logo into the palm puck (IT'S A SLIDE PUCK) and put the same material as mudstones on em. THEN I'd pay $70.

I like a lot of s9s products, and they do support some racing (not as much as they could), but when a company doesnt even know he definition of top mount, i start to wonder where their priorities lay.....

the word topmount is a term coined on silverfish, don't expect to find it everywhere.

S9 is the most widely known longboard company, they are everywhere. and when some guy doesn't know any better but wants to get into sliding/dh, he will drop 70 bones at zumiez for the gloves because it's where he just picked up his kommi with gullwings and race forms.
the guys at s9 know that people will pay for their products regardless of the price provided that its not completely unreasonable ($90+)

hmm i didnt know that. i guess s9 uses topmount in a logical sense too. the trucks are mounted on top (while we would say topmount is the deck mounted on top).

Re: Sector 9 "9 Star" Preview (Pics etc...)
well at a marketing stand-point, why would Sector want to use the term topmount to the general public?
More than 95% of their boards are "topmounts". if they were to choose to use that term it would peak the publics interest in what other kind of boards exist in longboarding.
People would find out that Dropped and drop-through, flushcut and underflush boards exist and are available at OTHER longboard manufacturers, thus distracting potential clients from buying "a normal longboard".
Sector9 aren't where they are today for no reason, they are very smart businessmen.

thats a good observation. and also what bugs me. Many longboard companies arent nearly as economically fortunate as s9, but i believe a lot of that is because they care abt the sport, thus keeping manufacturing in house, coming out with new and creative designs constantly, and watching out for their fellow skaters

look at the majority of decks s9 produces, very simple and very similar. you can make like 5 different decks from the same press, cheap. plus there are no special features like a drop, w-cave/pleasure dome, rocker etc. when you mass produce simply made boards and sell them for 100+ you make a profit.
plus they own gullwing which other companies put on their boards so they get money from that. as well as out sourcing manufacturing to say china? saves a lot of money than making stuff in north america like many companies do.

I completely understand. i wasnt referring to s9, i was talking abt other longboard companies vs s9. sectore9 doesnt do any of that, in terms of supporting the scene and rlly trying to watch out for other skaters (if they even skate themselves)
edit: "Many longboard companies arent nearly as economically fortunate as s9, but i believe a lot of that is because they [meaning the other companies, NOT s9]..." thats what i meant, but i realize i wasnt very clear

Re: Sector 9 "9 Star" Preview (Pics etc...)
I have a sector 9 dream wave, and I just started to realize what longboarding was after cruising. so I got a silverfish, and some paris 180s and Durians off the classifieds. problem is,I wanted to get away from sector9 and get a drop through, or a dropped deck. But sector9s are the only boards in my price range should I get a nine star? I am more than happy to buy used, but I have less than 50 to spend on a deck. I saw a kommi on the classifieds, but it is flush. any suggestions?
gonna be going at lest 40-45 on this deck.
I LOVE JESUS!!!!!!!!
