in berlin right now and i just looked though my large array or backpacking backs and i found one that was long enough to fit my board in. I took off the hangers with the wheels put them in a box at the bottom of my backpack. packed my board where the griptape was on my back and i packed my clothes and everythin in it

i'm wondering about Delta and/or Taca.... i fly them every month for work and want to bring one of my boards to el salvador.

+1 on the large duffel bag with clothes to protect it, but i would rather carry on since they lose bags sometimes and i dont want to have to lose a complete.

update: I just took my board on the plane from the us to calgary and it was totally fine. I checked in my board at the gate and no one even cared. I took united btw and I got a bunch of thumbs up instead and the people seemed really chill. On the other hand my friend took air candada and they made him break down his board. I carried my fullface onboard too and no one cared either

I've flown both Philippine and Hawaiian Airlines and taken my board but what I did was I found a box big enough for it, stuffed it with clothes and whatnot, and checked it in as my baggage. Last time I flew Philippine Airlines they let me take a shortboard on the way there but on the way back they suddenly changed their minds and counted it is another carry on.

I just flew to Davenport from Bangor, on Northwest/Delta. I used the "Silverfish" edition of the Old Man Army longboard bag. I put three decks in it, and left it unlocked so TSA could leave me a nice message saying that they checked the bag. I paid the luggage fee of $15 each way for that particular piece of luggage, just like I did for the large bag with my clothes and other stuff.

Davenport had a great park system with many miles of paved trails.

Three boards made it a little heavy, but the airline didn't seem to be bothered, and it was under the single item weight limit.

hell if my skateboard needs to be bagged, i shouldn't ride it!

i have no problems carrying on any airline since my transpo deck is 36" inches long. it is such a great metro size. in many categories it's GREEN all the way!

I never had a problem with my normal ol' skateboard... I'd have a backpack full to the point of bursting, a metal lockbox/camera case, and my skateboard wheels and all; never had anyone mess with me about it. One attendant on a flight told me I had to turn it over so the wheels faced up between my feet, that was it. However, my Dancer would probably be a whole different story.

I've got (as the signature states) a 60" Descent Dancer. Would I be able to get away with that or would it have to go through the horribly unsafe process of being luggage? (I've had two luggage cases come back broken after flights, and one that was lost for two weeks... ####### morons...)

thatd be tricky.
id suggest finding a friend with a snowboard bag or soemthing that you could borrow for a little while and use that and just check it in.
think about it. if you really want to bring your dancer it might be worth the $25 to check it in.
or you could pack it then pack your clothes around it and not have to pay the greenbacks for extra luggage.
then buy a pair of wheels

the freebord guys fly overseas all the time and take their boards as carry ons.. they take off the bindings and put them upside down in the overhead. I would think longboards would be similar

Carried on my loaded pintail again, Seattle to LA and back with Alaska airlines. no problems.

I just have the board strapped to my backpack when I go thru security and at the gate, then detach it right before I get on the plane. TSA doesn't care. As said just act like it's something you do all the time and the staff won't hassle you either.

Qantas (at least international) don't let you, even when its the deck only. I've tried 3 times, every time they wrapped it up in plastic and made me check it. domestic might be different but I doubt it.

I never been on a commercial airline.

Trains never searched my ####. Hell, my uncle brought a fishing pole tube on once. It's about the size of a rifle case. I mean, you could easily but a scope-less rifle in it. The conductor said, "These any guns in there?" Uncle said "Nope," and the that was about as far as that went for train security. They believe in the honor system I suppose.

Put it in a helmet bag. It makes a pretty good purse, I mannaged to fit my leathers into that combo last flight I took...

I've had no problems carrying on complete speedboards on Delta flights: AUS-PDX, AUS-SLC-YYC, AUS-CHI/MDW. HOU is a cool airport for skating too. The only problem I had was coming back from Calgary trying to get my Salt flat past security. The guy pulled it off the converyor belt, showed some people it was metal, and demonstrated how you could kill someone with it. I was allowed to carry it on the plane. I'll post up how it goes with Continental. Generally air port people are really stoked when you tell them you're going to/coming back from a skateboard race.

I also mannage a backpack/purse(helmet)/board carry on, so technically three items. If worse comes to worse, a plane side check is done.

Ughhh FML.
I want to take my chinook back to england with me next week. i'm flying with lufthansa via frankfurt...
i just got off the phone with them to check everything, because i don't wanna get stuck at the airport and not be able to take my board with me. anyway, i have two suitcases already so can't i check my board in, unless i want to pay a $200 extra bag fee. i asked if i could take it on as hand luggage, they asked how big it was, i said around 41', they said no, their overhead compartments are 23', i asked about people with strollers etc because they were often bigger than 23' and the dude said that it was only strollers that could be brought on as special luggage kinda stuff.

what do i do? normally i'd probably risk it at the airport, but i'm moving my life back to england and this is the last hassle i need...
