I recently traveled on Alaska Airlines from orange county to seattle. They simply did not care and I had my 41" dropdeck as my carryon. I put it wheels up in the overhead storage so more bags could fit on top of it. No problems at ALL!

Thumbs up re: Traveling with longboards

Hey I just traveled from New York to New Orleans with my Loaded Darvish. I was taking a cheap us air flight that had a connecting flight both ways. When I took the first set of flights I checked my burton role bag ($25 fee, j&rks) and just took my darvish (fully assembled) as my carryon. No one from security to the cabin crew said a word about it, and it fit neatly in the over head compartment. On the way back I took both my rolling bag and my assembled board on the plane and didn't have any problems at all on any flights.

Boards that are roughly 42" and less will fit neatly in most overhead compartments. I would suggest being early to queue for boarding so you have first pick of storage space.

P.S. the Burton Wheelie Flight Deck Role bag will roll with you while your skating. I think it even has skate bearings in the wheels.

Has anyone brought their board on a flight to or from Europe to the States. Wanna bring one of my boards over but not sure if it's gonna work.

Worst case scenario you can check it with your luggage.

Next summer I'm gonna go on a longboard trip in Europe with 2 friends.

We're gonna go in France, Switzerland, Austria (maybe), Czech Republic, Germany and the Netherlands.
We're surely gonna fly with Air Canada from Montreal to Paris.

The problem is that we want to be as lightweight as possible and we'll try to bring just our boards and a medium-size backpack. I don't know if they'll let us bring our boards along with our backpacks as carry-on luggage. I just don't trust letting my board go in the luggage hold. Is there a chance they'll let us take both even if they're separate pieces? Has anyone brought their boards has carry-on with Air Canada?

My board is a Loaded Dervish, if it helps. Thanks.

    Dammit! Yeah, sorry...

I'm just not used at all to the classification of the posts on the forum. Every other message board I go to class their posts in the opposite way (latest post = last page, not the first like here).

But I still want to know if they're very picky about that. It's because last year I went to San Fran and they made me put my 42" board in the oversize section...

Is there a way I can delete my post?

You can change it and make it normal. That's what I did.

    Here's the deal with flying.

F%$king call the airline and ask! Different airlines have different policies. Different airports have different polices. Different countries have different policies. Sometimes you can fly into a country with your board as a carry on, but on the way out, they make you check it (happened to me in the Netherlands). Not only all that, but different planes have different amounts of storage available.

Call the airline, get the rules, get the dimensions of the storage bins, and try to get the policy of the other airport you will be using to fly back. That's the only good way to know for sure.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to stringtheory again.

I swear.. We could streamline the threads on SF so much, if people would use the brain God (or whoever created you) gave you. I mean honestly, there are variables that can't all be covered on question like this.
    check list for self:
    1) Look for flights and pricing.
    2) Review the carriers policies
    3) Decide which carrier will fit your needs the cheapest
    4) Purchase ticket accordingly
    5) Have written copy of policy in hand at check in
    6) Receive boarding pass at counter
    7) If any problems arise produce the policy
    8) Solve any problems on the spot
    9) Retire to the bar
    10) Be at the gate on time
    11) Board plane
    12) Arrive at destination
    13) Enjoy
Repeat all steps that apply for your return flight.

It's pretty much a done deal, unless you can't tie your own shoe laces or feed yourself.

I one upped you, on a return flight from Ireland I got to skate the aisles at 37'000' at 500 knots
There were only 57 people on a 747 and was told to sit where I wanted (I opted the vacant 1st class) And skated the length of the plane for over 1/2 an hour, So I guess I skated aprox 275 miles in 1/2 an hour..beat that!!

So i just got into san diego via Southwest. I put my Eel in two trashbags to cover the wheels and no one even gave me a second glance. It was a pretty empty flight so i had a whole overhead compartment for it alone but i doubt it would have been different with a full flight
